STGOD Assault Weapons
I spent a little while monkeying around in Paint, turning the FAMAS into the FD-GIA. Take a look:
you all like?
-edit- I turned the 42b into a Bullpup design to distribute the weight better, to counterbalance the grenade launcher, since as an energy weapon, the location of the magazine is not terribly imporant so long as it's out of the way and can be switched rapidly.

Not bad, but that was definately derived from a FAMAS, not a FN-FAL...

I know this sounds a little too nit-picky, but the handle was probably better off being square than triangular. A 90 degree angle would both stop it from slipping from your grasp and give you a better grip on the handle. But with the angle you changed it too, your fingers would slip in between the narrow crack and get caught there, making it more difficult to grasp. Also if you had to pick it up by the handle, it would be more awkward gripping it by the slanted part, since the barrel would tip up.

Awesome. Looks much better. Although I think an even longer handle would be best. I say this because then you could still use the handle to pick the rifle up even with a scope attached to it. Right now, the handle is too short to use with the scope attached.

All this talk about the carry handle doesn't make much sense, since you don't actually carry it by the handle. You don't have enough control over where the muzzle is pointing when holding it with just the handle. On the M16, for example, you'd normally carry it with the fingers under the barrel in front of the magwell, and the thumb sticking into the carry handle(assuming that it isn't a flat-top). This provides a lot of control over where the muzzle is pointing, which means you aren't as likely to accidentally shoot your friend.

When you are knocked over by one of numerous combat dangers (explosions, bullets, diving to avoid something, debris, etc.) and your gun falls out of your grasp, do you want a handle that you can easily use to snatch up your rifle with a tight grip, or do you want to have a shitty grip on it by having to put your fingers around the scope? I am well aware of the fact that you don't normally carry it by the handle, but the handle would be very nice in a combat situation such as I just described. Does it make much sense to have the scope block the handle so you cannot use it?

Ask the guys who designed the FAMAS, I didn't mess with the trigger's locationDarth_Zod wrote:looks okay, but isn't the trigger a wee bit too far away from the grip? looks like it'd be extremely awkward to shoot for that reason.
I like the look of the magazine, and I don't think I'll mess with it.Since this is an energy weapon, move the magazine somewhere else. Have it go into the stock or clip to the top.
As for the issues with the carrying handle, is not the M-16's handle about that length?

Well the only gun I've ever carried that had handle was finnish army 7.62 KvKK 62 (KvKK=LMG) (I didn't work with weapons very much as I was in un-armed service(I started in regural service) the 7.62 Rk 62 (derived from the AK-74) didn't have handle and I didn't carry it any differently then the MG . In my experience an handle is unessery in rifle (it also makes aiming harder).

I've no idea, but the fact of the matter is that if you have a handle with a scope attached to it, it renders the handle nigh useless. Why not simply lengthen the handle to preserve its function when a scope is attached?Thirdfain wrote:As for the issues with the carrying handle, is not the M-16's handle about that length?
