I wonder if anyone's trying to raise money to support the kids and cover their legal expenses. I have some money I'd love to donate just to fight that sick bitch who filed this lawsuit, and to show the kids involved that society doesn't suck quite as much as her example would imply.

but why are people so heavily beating on her and not on the law that actually makes this bullshit possible? i mean, a law making it illegal to knock on a door and then leave is a lot fucking worse than an individual, grumpy old cunt.

There is no law making that illegal, as this wasn't a criminal trial.

It was a civil suit, and all the complainant had to do was convince some idiot judge or jury that the teens 'caused' her heart attack by knocking on her door 'late' at night.

I would have loved to have been a juror in this trial, as I would have voted against the plaintiff and then pointed at her and laughed as the verdict was read.

I have to wonder if the police were called after the incident. If you're truely that scared then that'd be the thing to do. They would have quickly found out what was going on and the whole situation would have been resolved that night.

And I'll take the unpopular side of the judge and say that the girls did exhibit poor judgement knocking on people's doors that late. But in light of of their motives and the fact that they offered to pay the medical bills I wouldn't have awarded that lady anything.

This was a really absurd thing. So, "good" kids trying to spread some warmth in the community are punished in this fashion? I had thrown the case (and that woman) out of court. A total waste with tax money.

It's better than that...it didnt even cause a heart attack, it caused her to think she'd had a heart attack.

Radio station KOA-AM of Denver raised more than $1,900 from listeners Friday to pay the girls' $930.78 fine. The rest of the money will go to a charity dedicated to victims of the Columbine High School massacre.

Durango - The father of a Durango-area teenager sued in a case involving cookies left on a neighbor's porch has gone to court to stop the woman's husband from calling him.

Richard Ostergaard got a temporary restraining order against Wanita Young's husband, Herb Young, in county court, claiming he continues to make harassing telephone calls to the Ostergaard residence.

On July 31, Taylor Ostergaard and Lindsey Zellitti decided to skip a dance and, instead, bake cookies for neighbors. They knocked on doors, dropped off the cookies along with heart-shaped wishes that recipients "have a great night," then ran away.

Wanita Young said that when the pair knocked on her door about 10:30 p.m., it frightened her into an anxiety attack. A Durango judge Thursday awarded about $900 to the 49-year-old woman to cover some medical bills incurred when she ended up at the emergency room the next day.

Wanita Young said, "This has turned into quite a fiasco. It's something that never should have happened, and it's just devastating. My phone hasn't stopped ringing. My life has been threatened, and I'll probably have to move out of town."
