"Well, at least they sent you to the right star nation. By all means let your escorts go, I'm sure they'll be thankful for the opportunity to avoid wearing the dress uniforms. Sending course data now."

A data file was instantly transmitted, upon close examination it was revealed to have a cleared course all the way to Pardah's atmosphere, a list of the better restaurants in the orbitting space station and groundside cities, and a really cool fighting rpg, that is revealed to be shareware after a detailed inspection, not letting the player progress past eighth level without purchasing the full version.

"Understood, Clensing Fire. Data transmission received, Nethrus out." The Kamaitachi-class Battlecruiser lurched forward slowly to join the Shi Combine vessals, leaving its escort behind. The five Ferentina-Class Escort Corvettes formed up defensively for the long wait ahead until they were to be rejoined by the Nethrus. On the bridge of the Nethrus, a datapad of the data transmission was readied and sent to the head of the diplomatic delegation the ship was carrying.

Omega system, Aquarian Sector
Omega 1, aka Nowna

"Sir! We just picked up an incoming fleet! Very large! ETA 1 minute!"

"Red alert."

Several days ago, a number of FFRMs had jumped near the system. They were giving real time updates as to the position of the pirate fleet. When the main fleet jumped in, they were able to precisely locate themselves to bring every element of the enemy in range with overwhelming fire.

"This is Krht of the Rpblksrpsk Expeditionary Fleet. You have 1 minute to lower your sheilds and surrender before I blow you miserable little fleet into space dust and plasma."

Interdiction fields snapped on to prevent their escape.

Galactic West
F-782c

The Stuart forces performed as expected, the five drive signatures which had represented the pirate forces which had splintered from the base tracked until their eventual destruction. The end result had never been in question, the Stuart Battle Carrier more than anything else had assured that. The Sabai forces had by now moved into proper position, boarding ships flooding the stars and heading towards their designated targets. The process seemed slower than it truly was within the bridges of the warships that attentively watched their pirate counter parts.

When the channel was opened and the familiar figure of the Stuart admiral manifested in the air before Commodore Fers. The Stuart offer considered for a moment, his attention sliding to a command console to his right which informed him of the situation in real time. A moment later, he glanced upwards towards the image and nodded.

“Admiral, your offer of assistance is appreciated and accepted. Our own forces have met more fierce resistance than expected in the following vessels and the pirate base itself. I was about to order reinforcements to be moved in along with a tactical repositioning of the fleet, but your offer should be more than adequate.”

It took mere moments for both commanding officers to establish the necessary communication protocols. The three ships which offered the most resistance to the Sabai boarding actions and the ideal placement of the Stuart boarding in the pirate base itself located. Mere minutes after the offer had been made; Stuart and Sabai forces were engaged in their first ever joint troop action. It was an auspicious start.

Sabai Territory
Sabai System, Sabai

The presence of Ambassador Mayhem had not been overlooked and since his arrival he had been treated with respect and attention. The Sabai themselves had spent quite a bit of time perfecting the art of interstellar diplomacy, and they seized every opportunity to display that fact. When the Ambassador asked for a high level meeting to take place, there was no hesitation in deciding upon a firm date.

The Sabai foreign minister had been thoroughly prepared for the meeting, the Acheron made sure to brief him personally, granting him the insights he would require during the meeting. When the fateful time arrived, the Stuart Ambassador found himself alone with the Sabai foreign minister in a room that was tastefully opulent. The words of the Stuart representative were heard and the response was immediate.

“My government and people are pleased by our cooperation against those that would disturb the peace and prosperity of our sphere of influence.” He paused for effect before continuing. “Like your own people and government, we have been keen in seeking out like minded nations. No one knows what the future holds, but times are changing. I can speak for my people when I say that we do not have imperial designs. However, we do have a desire to keep our area of space safe and our interests secure. The western pact…” He considered for a moment before smiling. “Sounds like a suitable name and a worthy start. Let us see where our nations shall go.”

Sabai Territory

The orders arrived from the hall itself arousing a flurry of activity within various key points within the nation. Their nation had chosen to assist the efforts of the birthing of a new hyper lane. A series of ships was sent, the first wave carrying the requested repair specialists to Blue Pointe station in order to assist with the reconstruction efforts. The others were to begin the process of surveying the ideal paths leading from Blue Pointe to Sabai territory.

There were other increases in activity, particularly along defense fields. Sabai shipyards began work on a dozen ships slated to be sold to the Karis one of the largest of the local star nations. The revelation was met with a great deal of surprise by many analysts, since the Sabai policy had traditionally made it difficult if not impossible for naval technology to be exchanged in such a fashion. The ships being built for the Karis were termed as being “potent platforms” although no details were given out. Sabai shipyards were also termed as increasing the pace of productions, suggesting that rumors of the establishment of a fifth fleet may have some merit.

In one of the Sabai worlds, twenty five remnants of times passed considered their thoughts for a moment before establishing the final links between their minds and machine. With what many considered was the perfect balance of magic and technology, their minds were merged and allowed to roam. The Eye of Sabai opening once more.

Hephaestus Station, Vigora Star System Asteroid Belt

The newly christened Second Fleet, assisted by the asteroid-bound station, began launching thousands of probe droids. Micro-jumping their way one AU beyond Blue Pointe station, their final destination. Mapping the course that will soon become the UVP-policed cooridor along the East-West Galactic Hyperlane. Ground-based telescopes throughout the UVP assisted in the task, but the droids would be the key. All obstacles to the route would be moved or destroyed by elements of the Second as they are identified.

Kingdom of Aquarius

The fleet surged out of Hyperspace, their weapons hot and shields fully charged, formation perfectly aligned. In seconds fighters were being launched to fly along side the carriers, pilots alert and ready.

"Admiral, we have arrived on target. All ships accounted for and all lights green. Enemy forces sighted." Commodore Nickels reported at attention while saluting. Admiral Dominent rose and saluted back.

"Excellent Commodore, forward the fleet, perpare for to fire all forward batteries and tubes." Admiral Dominent strode to the com station, nodding the Lt. there at ease, the Lt flicked a switched and reported.

"Sir, you are patched in to com, open channel." The Admiral nodded, and began his speech.

"Beings of the Kingdom of Aquarius, your nation has been proven to provide host and support to bandits and pirates who flout international law. Has such The Eastern Rim Trade Commission has decided to end this farce. All ships are to lower their shields and power down their weapons or be treated has hostile warships. You have 3 minutes to comply." The Admiral made a crisp cutting motion with his hand. The Lt. killed the connection following the unspoken order.

"Commodore order all ships and fighters to maintain active targeting on all enemy warships. Fire upon all who have not complied in the time frame. Interdictor strength?"

"Interdictor fields are up at 100%, Sir." Commodore Nickels reported.

"Well very. Proceed."

Sabai System, Sabai

"It is a unique chance for our people," Erad Mayhem answered the Sabai foreign minister. "And our armed forces show great promise for further cooperation as we speak. So great times lie ahead of us."
The Corporation didn't have an outright imperial policy, but it was evaluated and decided that to ensure continued safety, steps had to be taken to do that. Even if it meant imperialism. But then again, the Corporation was a pragmatic society.
The ambassador continued, "If you like, we could begin drafting a treaty for this Western Pact. Once done, we can officially declare ourselves in the eyes of the galaxy."

Galactic West

The Dragon's Breath used its low-powered point defense to clear away most of the pirate bases defenses before the shuttles descended. Just in case, a swarm of Stuartian fighters flew ahead of them, eager to take any incoming fire on them. For other nations, this concept might have been seen as suicide maneuvres, but the Corporation didn't much care about the loss of human material which could be so easily regrown.
Some defense emplacements seemed to have survived the light bombardment, and a handful of fighters exploded into clouds of debris before their sisters could destroy those emplacements.
Seconds later, the heavy assault shuttles came to a thudding stop at the main entrances and released their freight of Stuart marines, followed by a group of Sabai soldiers.

***

The second group of marines just made their final approach on the pirate vessels, a large group of Sabai and Stuarts closing in on the hapless ships. Fighters were protecting them for their last few kilometers.
The shuttles forced themselves into the docking ports and blew the hatches. Using stun guns, nano-weapons, and sleep gas the heavy armoured marines moved in.

The UVP has already committed one fleet to assist in patrolling our part of the ACIN hyperlane, we are however unwilling to simply hand-over ships to you for this purpose. Despite this, we will make every reasonable resource available to you including use of our facilities. A total nonaggression pact would be acceptable to the UVP, and we would also agree to a mutual defense pact in relation to securing the hyperlane.

Accept surrenders, Elyssa, we need the hulls and the goodwill.

Message Ends.
Nikitos System, Aquarian Union

Twenty-four hyperspace gates explode into realspace in a thin shell around Nikitos itself, depositing the ships of the First Battle Squadron and the First Marine Expeditiary Force in low orbit around the world. Even as the gates fade away, fighters begin to swarm from the decks of the group's carriers, missiles spilling from broadside tubes...and drifting in space, their suicidally-overpowered drives in active. Active sensors and fire-control systems lash nearby space with powerful pulses of energy, firing solutions locking into the battlegroup tacnet. Powerful scrambling pulses race out on the local hyperspace bands, twisting and warping space around the emerging battlegroup and sealing off access to the only chance the lighter defenders would have to run. A comm transmission blasts out on all frequences, simple, blunt, and direct.

We welcome your offer. We would allow you free access to the station currently under construction as the end point of the lane situated on our border. Your ships are not allowed to enter our territory without additional clearance, though. Of course, our military will also patrol the lane around our territory.
Your request for ships is denied. While we would support you with supplies, we cannot supply you with ships. Not only are you not able to control or use our ships at all, we also do not wish to hand over Stuartian state-of-the-art technology to outsiders.
The request for a NAP is sensible and acceptable.

While we appreciate the offer regarding the hyperland we are unable to agree to your request for ships. many technologies involved in our vessels are beyond the ability of purely organic beings to control, and some require several years of special training. in addition several of our devices and power sources are highly classified. we are not willing to risk breaches in security by lending ships with unique technology to foreign powers.

however we are willing to comply with a nonagression pact in the interests of future diplomatic relations, and provide aid and supplies as necessary in mutual interests of protecting and maintaining the newly opened hyperland.

Galactic

“Accelerate to full speed, flash a message to the Array ordering them to broadside their group, and not stay to trade fire, leave the pickings to the NRS fleet.”

Array
Captain Fluy copied the transmission, and ordered the fleet,”All ships move to the Array's port side, gunboats, trail the fleet, give them a good parting gift”
Messages streamed in from the rest of the group copying the message, as the fleet neared firing range.

“Nova cannon, aim for the right hand cruiser...FIRE!”

A massive 15 meter long shell exited the cannon at a sizeable fraction of light speed, and sped towards cruiser whose only designatin on the Array's targeting computer was a number, Gamma 56.

Gamma 56 never had a chance, it was hit, and split in two, resulting in minor explosions.
The remains were left spinning.

Meanwhile the rest of the fleet opened up with a storm of Fram torpedoes, which sped towards the target.

The pirate group opened fire, at that range, few of their shots hit, non penetrated the shields.
Behind those shots, were a few scattered torpedoes, all fell to PD Storm Bolters, after those were the fighters.

The fighters were mongrels, fighters and bombers, whose pieces were stuck together with glue and duct tape, few of them were anything more then combat capable, even less were equivalent to anything in the Hub's arsenal.

As the pirate fighters closed range, the Fram torpedoes entered PD range of the pirate vessels, most torpedoes fell, but what remained hit the remaining cruiser and the dozen corvettes, in each case, several penetrated, then exploded their warhead.
In each case, the target suddenly twisted, as the vortex and reality collided, with the pirates in between.

Meanwhile, the Array battle group was still accelerating to the interdictors, and the Pirates had a single chance to cripple a ship.

Pirate fighter craft Dazzle

“Okey everyone, we have one shot, lets go for those 2 rear corvettes, lets hope we survive and hook up with the Brave and get out of here.”

Crusic mused outloud to the rest of the group,”While each of us alone wasn't a danger, 65 of us are, lets do it and show them we're not some rabble.”

As long range cannons picked off a few, the pirates entered short range, and started firing at the 2 corvettes.
After a few seconds of intense energy exchange, the Hub's fighters arrived, starfing the pirates and forcing them to move on.
Within seconds the pirates were past the 2 corvettes, with 25 remaining, but the corvettes were in a bad shape, one with a few hull breachs, the second stripped of all shields.

Array

Fluy stared worryingly at the plot showing the 2 corvettes, “Hold position.”

Flash a message to the Galactic, forward it to our new friends, we need rescue craft and some defenses to take care of that corvette.

To the corvettes,”Hang in there, we'll get some cover.”

The gunboats, now unneeded, sped up and hung tight to the Array, prepering for the boarding action.

Galactic:

1 minute from contact

“Message forwarded Array, tell them to hang tight”

“Warm up the Nova cannons, take out that cruiser, I want it destroyed”

The two cannons spun up, each launching an identical shell, both hit the cruiser within nanoseconds of each other, the cruiser was split into pieces, every living organisim flash vapourized.

Torpedoes and fighters followed in the shells wake, the Torpedoes, covered by the fighters, passed unscathed through the PD, and exploded, taking out both carriers before they had the chance to drop a single fighter.

Right after them were the fighters and bombers, passing through the fleet, dropping missles, but not taking down any more pirates.

In the main battle fleet, the Galactic surged ahead, leading the battle group into the pirate fleet.

Entering range, the Galactic opened fire, with the first volly badly damaging the remaining pirate vessels, the 2nd utterly eliminating them.

Send a message to the NRS Pillar of Autumn, inform them they are free to elimate the targets.

OOC: sorry for taking so long.

Stuart Registry system XR-445-2

The system was about 20 light years away from New Jove, the neartest settled planet, and devoid anything useful to the Corporation. It only housed a sensor station and the net of sensor buoys to protect this part of the Corporation's border.
It was this system that would funtion as the Corporation's end point of this hyperlane project. They were not as enthusiatic about it as other nations, but for the sake of it went along. Though they were actively helping, it was also firmly decided that no free entryway into the heart of the Corporation was maintained without control.
There was a relatively large station under construction just outside the system's main bodies and it would serve as docking point for ships of foreign nations. It was specifically designed that way.
Not far from it was another structure, this by far larger than the trade station. When finished, it would be a massive space fortress to protect both the station and the end point. Powerful interdictor systems would soon be installed to pull ships from their FTL travel, which refused to observe Stuartian protcol and not drop by at the station for checking and observing.

Blue Pointe

The huge contruction ship and its escort of destroyers appeared with the usual suddenness near the station and slowly accelerated inwards. It was a top-of-the-line construction ship and tasked to help the reconstructione ffort. As it was cleared, it settled near the main construction sites.

Thirteen points of glaring white light spring into existence around the embattled Hub fleet, splut into two clusters, one by each heavy warship. As the flares of light and energy extend back to hyperspace. fighters begin to storm out through them, the advance screen for thirteen starships. Each cluster is centered around a heavy battleship, screened by a smattering of cruisers and carriers, but despite their small numbers, the arriving ships bristle with missile and beam mounts. Deck turrets traverse to align with the nearest non-Hub concentrations, but given the confusing sensor reports of a tricorner conflict, nothing more lethal thatn fire-control sensors lash out...yet.

"Astropath Videlum to see you, my Lord." Vesuvius turned to face the bald-headed, mouse-like man standing before him.

Videlum bowed clumsily."The Astropathica is pleased to report that the Jildean and Beruin hyper-routes have been fully mapped and found safe for transit, Most Holy One. "

Vesuvius smiled, pleased. "Excellent. How goes your progress in mapping out the new Kdager hyperlane? I have not seen any reports from the Astropathica since the mission began." The Saint sensed unease in Videlum's normally controlled mind.

"We are making progress, slow, but steady progress nonetheless. You must realize, charting a completely new hyperlane takes an enourmous amount of time, especially one that must be routed as precisely as Kdager. The route winds up very close to Nashtari space, astronomically speaking, which is good. The second part of the route has yet to be completed, but the Aurora-Nashtar portion is at least good enough to be used for military and logistical movement. It will be a few weeks before we can mark off designated merchant pathways."

The Saint nodded, and pointed to the doorway. "You may show yourself out, Astropath Videlum." The Astropath bowed again, and withdrew.

Turning to his vox-console, he sent a graciously worded message to the Aglatarian Hub, apologizing for the delays in the mapping, and giving them immediate pathway rights. The Astropathica would not be happy Vesuvius gave them the pathway rights so quickly, but then again, they could not do much about it, could they?

The Harper Syndicate Border War
ACIN Commerce Guild HQ - Sygnus Major

"I've told you before, the ACIN cannot spare any ships at this time. There are risks involved, you win some you lose some, you of all people should understand that's the way things work Processor." the Defense Administrator's hologram shimmered slightly.
"We've lost six ships over the past two and a half months, four since the great lane project alone! If this continues we'll be forced out of business. There are many key trading parters in that region. Please, it's obviously because of the new hyperlane that we're seeing this increased activity away from it." the Processor pleaded.
"This is the last time Mister Processor, the ACIN will not help in these matters. If you want to be safe, take the Great Lane, it's patrolled very regularily now. Good Day." he cut the transmission.
"What good is the Confederacy if it doesn't protect it's citizens?" councilor Breman scoffed.
"It's understandable" replied the Chief, "but we can deal with this in other ways."
"Oh? What do you propose?" asked the processor.
"I still have my contacts among the parliment... and others, we'll get this sorted out... trust me."

NRS Black Prince

Black Prince was Fifth Fleet's Dauntless class battleship and she was slightly out of her element; made for heavy assault, she was not built for pursuit of fleeing destroyers. Still, her oversized engined allowed for considerable thrust as she surged in pursuit of a fleeing interdictor, her escorting destroyers fanning out ahead to attempt to box it in.

Commodore Greyson stood up from his command chair. "Prime Archer missile tubes. Fire missiles 1 through 100 at the target on my mark." He paused for a moment. "Mark."

The missiles leapt free of their tubes and surged forward, accelerating to nearly half the speed of light. They rippled against the interdictor's shields in rapid staccato. The last few ruptured against the hull plating.

"Comms, give the mark to the frigates."

"Aye, Commodore." The communications officer quickly relayed the order to the half dozen Bandit class frigates in the escort force.

NRS Sherwood

"Mark."

"Captain..."

"I heard it, Comms. Helm, bring us about to bearing 330 mark 20 and accelerate to flank speed. Torpedo room, Conn. Confirm Mark 610s in tubes one through three."

"Conn, Torpedo, confirm Mark 610 torps," came the response over the intercom.

"Torpedo, Conn, aye. Stand by to fire tubes one through three on my mark."

"As ordered, Conn."

Scattered shots from the interdictor, until now concentrating all guns on the heavy destroyers moving to flank, began to reach out for the frigates as they rapidly closed the distance, massive engine blocks flaring blue as they strained. Too little, too late.

"Mark. Fire one. Fire two. Fire three. Reload with heavy torpedoes."

"Tubes one through three fired, reloading with boomers, aye."

The three torpedoes streaked forward, rapidly closing the relatively miniscule difference between the frigate and her prey. The rest of the gunners on the interdictor opened up too late as the ship's captain realized his peril. Multiple torpedoes prematurely blew as they were met with point defense fire on the way in, and frigates began taking withering hits that they could not withstand for more than half a minute at most.

Fortunately, they didn't have to. Four torpedoes survived and hit the interdictor. Rather than exploding against the hull, arcs of energy and ion bursts went from the torpedoes to the ship's hull. The interdictor quickly went dark, and continued hurtling through space unpowered and unguided, her weapons falling silent as they lost power.

Captain Horton grinned. "Comms, Conn. My regards to Commodore Greyson. The target has been neutralized and may be captured at leisure."

"Conn, Comms, aye."

NRS Long Island, RSC Assault Ship

"Conn, Comms, new orders," called out the comms officer. "We are to cancel our capture run and move to assist the Hub corvette Peacekeeper, currently disabled, out of control, and losing life support, without delay. The corvette is currently bearing 112 mark 10."

Muttering under his breath, Captain Brrashik nodded his furred head in acknowledgement. "Helm, Conn. Set new course 112 mark 10 and move to intercept the Hub corvette. CAG, reoutfit a flight of Pelicans for board and rescue and prepare for launch."

"Aye, Captain."

The kilometer-long assault ship fired it's engines and heeled over to the new course, rapidly accelerating towards the stricken vessel.

"Comms, Conn. Attempt to establish contact with the Peacekeeper, ask for a damage assessment and docking instructions.

The Harper Syndicate Border War

"What the hell is this all about, sir?" Habermeyer demanded.
"Listen, Marcus... I've got senators riding my ass on this one. The commerce guilds have lost some ships in the region, and are all pissy over it." Admiral Bates sighed heavily.
"And you are just going to take it?!" He demanded.
"Listen Habermeyer we've all got our problems, I owed some big people a big favor, it's just a month. Show up, poke your head around, show off the flag, it's a vacation, really. You've got some funds to take in the local culture and all, just don't start any wars, eah?" He smiled.
"I still don't like it..."
"Listen, I wouldn't ask you if I didn't have to."
"Fine, I'll parade the flag around Bandi."
"Good, oh and by the way, they've rustled up some Sheridan ships for this, they'll be under you too."
"You mean I've got to de..."
"Nice talking with you Marc! Got to run!" He cut the transmission and went back to his scotch.

Bandi Sector
Day 1

Taskforce twelve slid out of hyperspace near an uninhabited system along one of the Commerce Guild's unofficial back roads.

"Lieutenant, order two squadrons and an escort to head in-system and scan for signs of our missing freighters." the Commodore asked lazily of his second. Within the hour a host of fighters left the Oberth and headed in system. By the end of the day they finished their sweep of the system with little to report. Waste of a day, the Commodore thought, tomorrow they'd check another empty system...

After a brief period of total shock, a storm of electromagnetic signals begins to radiate from the planet below, some encrypted, some coming through in the clear with blatant panic. Generators spin up on the aging space stations orbitting the world, along with the defending starships, but the palest shreds of defense shields of defense shields are just shimmering into place as the one-minute mark draws near. Just as quickly, at a flurry of transmissions from the planet, the stations power down once more.

Code: Select all

T-this is Hereditary President Waldeck...we are standing down, please, PLEASE don't fire, we're powering down!
The defending ships close to the planet and its sudden entourage follow the example of the stations along with several of the perimeter defense craft, nebulous shielding fading as generators drop to standby power levels. Several destroyers and frigates picketting the system's outer reaches, however, begin a mad dash outwards, trying to clear the interdictor field and reach the safety of hyperspace. Two light cruisers and a single heavy, along with roughly half of the First's fighter screen, break away from their positions in orbit and scream away in pursuit, the first pair of missiles blasting free of the Godhand's chaser tubes.

Code: Select all

This is Maria Thelassen, captain of the heavy cruiser Mjolnir. You are instructed to heave to and prepare to be boarded. You will not receive another warning, I and my group will fire for effect in thirty seconds. Do not entertain thoughts of escape, we're here for the long haul and we DO have emission signatures on your ships. Think fast, you're down to twenty-two seconds.
Meanwhile, the three boarding craft attached to the First Battle Squadron begin to rendevous with the near-planet stations and ships, sending boarding teams aboard each to secure control systems and engineering bays, ensuring that no local commanders can act on any second thoughts they may have about their world's capitulation.

All but three of the departing ships cut their drives far within the interdictor fields overlapping the area. Two frigates and a single poorly-maintained destroyer continue their headlong flight for safety. The two light cruisers pair off on the nearer of the two escaping frigates, leaving the second frigate to the fighters. The Mjolnir squares off against the fleeing destroyer, reefing around in a tight turn to present its broadside missile tubes. Eight missiles slash free of the heavy cruiser's port batteries, drive units radiating a storm of emissions across the spectrum as they flash across the system's orbital shells... .2c, .3c, .4c...until they begin their terminal attack maneuvers, coming in at small slice under the speed of light. Wild, frantic point defence manages to stop two of the incoming missiles, but the remaining six warheads detonate well clear of the fleeing ship...and send massively high-power beams of bomb-pumped energy slashing into and through the destroyer's shielding. The ship staggers in mid-flight, slewing sideways as a drive pod blows clear and losing power to her aft shields...and then the second salvo arrives. The missiles sweep in to detonate against the exposed hull itself, eight balls of white light searing the void as matter and antimatter meet.

There was no wreckage.

The Harper Syndicate Border War
"Picking up a distress call Commodore" announced the comms officer.
"Run it!"

"Help, anyone out there? Our engines are out, someone please help,
we've been stuck out here for days!" the message repeated.

"Dispatch the Frigate Welington to investigate please, ill be in cartography." he ordered before walking off the bridge.

Commodore Habermeyer entered the map room, "Ensign, what is your report?"
"Over a hundred uninhabited systems along path 719, sir. It'll take months to check them all with what we've got right now. The path also take us close to the Char-Pahn Protectorate, the Ryle Republic and Argon XII." the ensign never looked up from his computer console.
"What does the databse say about these system states?"
"Several conflicts in the past over smuggling, but nothing recent."
"Do any..."
"Commodore to the bridge!" The PA systen announced with alarm.
The commodore nodded to the ensign as he rushed out of the map room.

"What's going on?" He demanded.
"The Wellington reports that she is engaging three pirate ships, she's requesting assistance." comms officer reported.
He chuckled, "Order the Tango and Janova to follow us, oh and battlestations please."
The General Quarters lights over the ship began flashing, "General quarters. General quarters. All hands man your battle stations!" the ship's PA system announced.

"Set course and engage, tell Captain Brackwell he's incharge while we are gone." Captain Brackwell was the SO of the escort carrier Mason.

The three ships jumped into hyperspace moments later and in short order arrived to see three pirate ships, heavy corvettes, jump into hyperspace in random directions, away from the Battlecruiser and her escorts.
