That's right, you have to be an officer to be a pilot. Out of curiosity, how often do you have to "chew out" NCOs and privates for incompetence/stupidity?
Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

Personally I think the stupidity rests more on the shoulders of the chain of command for over-reacting and making this a big deal. This is the first major war in which we've been denied the opportunity to drink a beer once in awhile and we don't mix with the locals. The locals are a security and terrorist risk so I can see that, but the beer restriction is due to "Muslim sensitivities"...

But pretty much every meal revolves around pork something-or-other and we can buy all the "Maxim", "Stuff", "FHM" and "SSX" we want. Most of the Iraqis we pulle dover after curfew were drunk as hell. Then they wonder why troops get all pent up and do dmanfool things.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!

"A sex party with alcohol that is prohibited would suggest a serious breakdown of military discipline," said Washington-based lawyer Eugene Fidell, a military-justice expert. "Just how it would be handled would be determined by the commander, who has very broad discretion in situations like this.
This kind of shit is going to happen if the troops aren't allowed any of the usual methods to blow of steam and relieve stress. Most notably the restriction on alcohol and porn is especially damageing to a soldiers morale.

Only once, and it wasn't much of a chewing out. I was waiting to use an ATM at Lackland AFB (home of basic training) with a bunch of recruits, when one decided to use her friend to cut into the line. A quick and slightly loud "hey, get in the back and wait your turn like everyone else" sent her scurrying to the rear.

Since I am a pilot I don't really manage anyone, but the few Airmen and NCOs that I've worked with were all professionals who you just couldn't imagine screwing up in any way.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

you can have the best and brightest in the armed forces, but they need *someway* to relax away from the combat zone.

my worry in this situation is fratnerization, but the alchohal ban is a killer as well.
