Chipset support for Pentium III
I purchased an older computer (NT 4.0 OS) and am thinking about either rebuilding the operating system or replacing the operating system with one that I am more familiar with (98 se) or maybe with win 2000 becuase it was recommended.
I contacted the manufacturer of the machine and they told me that I need to go to intel for the chipset. They do not appear to have the chipsets on their website. Does anybody have an alternate place that they suggest I go. The chipset is the 440 BX on a Pent III 850 processor

I also am asking what exactly do I need for chipset support for files?

Those are the download pages for the 440 chipsets.
That said, if you have 98 or 2000 installed, you shouldn't need to install any chipset drivers. I had a 440BX running 98 and 2k happily for years (My dad still has it running), and it's never needed a chipset driver installed.

IIRC chipset driver requirement starts on XP and 2003. Am I correct?Vendetta wrote:http://support.intel.com/support/chipse ... 009195.htm

Negatory, Tango Two. Fail to load chipset drivers on most any OS and all kinds of funky shit doesn['t work quite right. For a quick demonstration, glance at the device manager and note how many wierd things are showing up as unloaded.

Sorry, I did not explain myself right. I was able to download a set of chipsets which I hope are the proper ones. Problem is that the documentation on the Intel website seems to contrict itself. I am likely going to upgrade the laptop to either Windows 98se or Windows 2000. I have a DVD Rom and there are few DVD programs which will run on NT.phongn wrote:You shouldn't really have to worry about chipset drivers in NT4.
The computer has NT 4.0 presently but it has a full set of drivers and I am thinking about saving all the directories which might contain drivers.
