Carly Fiorina, one of the nation's most prominent technology executives and a popular symbol of women in big business, was ousted as the head of computer services giant Hewlett-Packard today over "strategic differences" with her board of directors.

Fiorina was chief executive and chairman of the company

Robert P. Wayman, the company's chief financial officer and interim chief executive, said the main problem was the company's loss of market share in several core areas of its broad computer-related business and inadequate profit margins generally.

Inevitable, her drastic (and mostly unsuccessful) changes at HP combined with the terrible handling of the Compaq merger meant that she wasn't going to be kept unless she delivered a stellar couple of quarters and she didn't deliver. I think the only reason she's held on this long is due to star power; she's one of the most powerful women in technology and she has a sort of minor celebrity status in the tech world.

And now she'll just be famous for not succeeding at integrating Compaq into HP ...

Unfortunately their laser printer design was long since outsourced, IIRC. I still see LaserJet III and 4-series printers still chugging along.

Their printer unit is currently the one thing still churning out profits.

Is it any wonder with a business model as retarded as theirs? "Ignore profits--we want to be a big company instead of a successful one."

Yepp I also see them now and then.

At the office we have a LJ III that just chugs along.

I do understand why they son't make quality like that anymore, there is no profit in stuff that is maitinence free (almost) and works.

I fucking hate new printers with fucked up builtin printservers and whatnot. I want to manage the printer from the File & Print server not from some funky webinteface... Sorry this is turning into a rant...

Anyways a fucking HP server cost me a job once, it hasseled so mutch so I lost the gig.

I later heard that the first thing the new guy did was to junk the HP server and get a new one.

But the dumbass boss would not let me do that but for the new guy, hey that's ok.

Ahh well that buissnies went bellyup in the post happydays of IT mania.

There is if they charge an arm and a leg for ink and toner, which is exactly what they do.

....OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE!

There's talk of the former Compaq CEO being offered the slot at HP. Lemme get this straight...HP, a mediocre computer company, buys Compaq, a HIDEOUS computer company, then fires the CEO that presided over the buyout. And offers it to the man who ran Satanw...Compaq. What, are they TRYING to slit their own wrists?

Compaq wasn't exactly in dire straights when HP bought them out. Look at it from a managerial perspective.

:? I never thought she was much of a person to look up to. I think she mostly showed that women in big business can get up high now (rarely), but she never seemed to demonstrate competance. So... one step forward, two steps back? :|
"The rest of the poem plays upon that pun. On the contrary, says Catullus, although my verses are soft (molliculi ac parum pudici in line 8, reversing the play on words), they can arouse even limp old men. Should Furius and Aurelius have any remaining doubts about Catullus' virility, he offers to fuck them anally and orally to prove otherwise." - Catullus 16, Wikipedia
