Lord Solar Macharius vs The Federation

Post by General G »

Instead of ending his campaign at the edge of the galaxy Macharius advances into the unexplored regions and discoveres a wormhole leading to the borders of the federation. Can the federation keep the Imperium of Man's greatest general from conquering them?

In battle the Feds are royally screwed once again, in that a single IoM cruiser is 8km long and brisling with guns, and Marchis' flagship was about 20 km long and equipped as an exterminator. Howver Marchius would have problemas without the astronomicon for navigation.

If the feds get anywhere near him they are totally dead, however the jump range of his ships without the astronomicon is only 4 light years... so it's gonna take him some time.

Erm.... I thought the Imperium's cruisers only were 3km long??? (Perhaps 4-5km for a Vengeance-class Grand Cruiser)

Other figures on IoM ships are pure speculation. However, if the models from Battlefleet Gothic are to scale, their escort ships are 1-1½km long, a Dauntless-class light cruiser is 2250m long, a grand cruiser is 3400m long, battleship is 3785m long and Abaddon's planetkiller is 4600m long.

I think only the Dominion, the Borg and the Voth can come up with ships that big. And after the Dominion receiving an emasculation after trying to invade to Alpha Quadrant, I think they're quite weak now. The Borg couldn't beat Species 8472, but the Imperium seems to be somewhat able to hold back the Tyranids, the 40K universe's equivalent of Species 8472.... (although the Tyranids seem to be gaining edge and edge)....

Nope a Lunar class cruiser is about the size of an SSD, while an emeror class battleship is enormous

Where do you have that information from??

I know that an old short story lists a Dictator-class as being 30km long, but for the amount of crew, the novel "Execution Hour" lists a very low number of crew for a 30km long ship.

By the way, an Executor-class SSD is much bigger than 8km. At least 17km.

They are. All the SDs slapped with the general "Super" label (Sovereigns, Executors, and Eclipses) are in the neighborhood of 15-18 km in length.

Nope.
What you're probably thinking of as the Super is the Executor-class command ship.
If you want to do any looking up of classes of SD, go here:
http://www.theforce.net/swtc/daggerid.html
This is a pretty complete index of all the Star Destroyers seen in the movies, RPG supplements, and comics, done by Curtis Saxton.
