The shooting script for ESB says something quite similar to the novel version.Vympel wrote:But they didn't explode against the wall. They stopped at his hand.
I believe in a sign of Zeta.

True...both the shooting script AND the novel have the shots being defelected, however, in TESB film itself has the blaster shots terminating Lord Vader's out streched hand. And we all know what takes precedence on canon issues.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:The shooting script for ESB says something quite similar to the novel version.Vympel wrote:But they didn't explode against the wall. A jedi would only be able to deflect one continues beam from a phaser. If the Jedi attempted to deflect mulitiple beams fired at different angles each time he moved his saber, the beam that he was blocking will strike him.
does that make sense?
If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.

Now say he cranks up his situational awareness and combat speed.
Since Worf can dodge a phasor a Jedi can too.
Now these are on continous beam, we switch to Matrix/Chow Yun-Fat/Max Payne mode, and Fed's stock still, Jedi runs up the wall deflecting continous peam A into person B. while dodging beams C, D, & E, spin around eliminate all targets through either fratracide, or throug lightsaber deflection.

Regarding Jedi blocking machine guns, multiple phasers:
Jedi aren't invulnerable (watch Attack of the Clones: Arena scene). However, if something is too much to handle, the jedi's goal isn't to block everything, rather to move out of the way.
However for two beams, taking a point on each beam, it's possible to draw a straight line between them, so, yes its possible for the jedi's lightsaber to block both, unless they are too far apart.

A Jedi is more likely to use their ability to strengthen the bonds in a material to make a shield, or dodge. Amusingly, their strengthen object power directly works against NDF.

I believe Vader did block it with the Force. EU forces refer to Skywalker musing on how his father could absorb blaster bolts with the Force and then dissipate the energy by performing telekenisis--not that he needed the blaster energy to do so. Besides....
Nitpicky and semantics bullshit, but sometimes that's the only way to resolve inconsistencies: it says he rose a gauntlet-protected hand and deflected the bolt. In the movie he didn't deflect it, and in the novel it never specifies whether it was the Force or the gauntlet which deflected the bolt; certainly Vader still "lifted a gauntlet-protected hand" in the movie but it seems likely he just absorbed the bolt with the Force. The gauntlet likely is just another toy of Imperial technology and Sith "alchemy" (what appears to just be manipulation on the molecular/atomic level with the Dark Side or something) which likely simply defended the Dark Lord from irradiation/burning by the blaster bolt even though the power was absorbed. The novel I, Jedi supports this: even though Jedi washout Corran Horn was innately skilled in the "Absorb Energy" ability, his clothes were sill seared off his body despite aborbing the small-arms fire on one notable ocassion, IIRC.The Empire Strikes Back novelization wrote:But the man who may have been the fastest draw in the galaxy was not fast enough to surprise Vader. Before those bolts zipped halfway across the table, the Dark Lord had lifted a gauntlet-protected hand and effortlessly deflected them so they exploded against the wall in a harmless spray of flying white shards."

"Form VI: In the time of Palpatines Chancellorship, Form VI is the current standard in Jedi Lightsaber training. This Form balances the emphases of other forms with overall moderation, in keeping with the Jedi quest to achieve true harmony and justice without resorting to the rule of power. It is considered the “Diplomats Form” because it is less intensive in its demands than the other disciplines, allowing Jedi to spend more time developing their skills in perception, political strategy and negotiation. In practice Form VI is a combination of Forms III, IV, V, and I. Young Jedi spend their first few years studying Form I and then a year or two on each additional form before completing their training. By comparison, a Form VI master will spend at least ten years studying only that form after completing the basic Form I training. Form VI well suits the modern Jedi’s role in the galaxy, in which a Knight overly trained in martial combat might be at a loss to resolve a complex political conflict between Star systems. However, full masters of other Forms sometimes consider Form VI to be insufficiently demanding."
