As for your analogy, you are missing the point. Violence is not self-perpetuating, that is to say, violent people do not cause other people to be violent. Nor is stupidity strictly self-perpetuating - being around Darkstar does not cause one's brain to shrink (it only feels that way). However, religous fundamentalism, which causes stupidity (it isn't the only cause, but it is a cause) IS self-perpetuating. If you spend long enough listening to a fundie for any purpose other than to rip their arguments to whred, you WILL become a fundie. And even highly intelligent people have made that mistake before. Even those who don't become full-fledged fundies will still pick up bits of their intolerant propaganda (I've seen plenty of moderate Christians who buy in to Jerry Falwell). If we kill all fundies, there won't be anyone left to perpetuate fundamentalism, which means that one of the major causes of stupidity will be eliminated. Thus, killing fundies will cause a decrease in the stupidity and intolerance visited upon future generations.

Tell me this: a group of humans exist with a highly lethal disease. This disease is treatable in the early stages, but in the later stages it's impossible to cure without killing the patient. The virulence of the disease is directly proprtional to how far advanced it is. Those people that can be treated are not very contagious, but those who are beyond treatment WILL infect everyone they come near. Since we cannot cure them, and providing isolation chambers for all of them is well beyond our financial capabilities, are we then justified in killing them and burning the bodies in order to prevent the rest of humanity from being infected. OF COURSE WE ARE!

Now, in this analogy, the people who are beyond treatment are the fundies. The only difference between this disease and stupidity is that stupidity is not lethal. That was the point of the anti-fundie virus thread, and there is no analogy between that and killing people just for the hell of it. Now stop arguing like a god-damned moron.

Wong and Bean have been listening to what fundies have been saying in order to rip their arguments to shreds, hence they are safe. As for the proof, basic fact of learning by pattern recognition: If you are exposed to the same pattern over and over again you are going to believe it. The reason why this doesn't work if you are exposing yourelf with the intent to rip that argument to shreds is that the pattern you are exposing yourself to is that that argument is shown to be bullshit every single time, thus you only further convince yourself of its shittiness.

Yes this is a mental ailment, and a very dangerous one. It is one form of pure stupidity. I have personally observed that nearly all stupidity is in fact directly caused by the presence of unfounded assumptions that a person refuses to abandon. This is why stupid people are often able to reason just fine in certain areas yet dogmatically stick to their unjustified opinion in others - because in the areas where they can reason, their assumptions do not come into play.

The radical muslims - are no more of a threat to humanity than the Israeli terrorists. Let me guess - your family wasn't composed of fundies. Care to guess what you would be if they were? A God-fearing, gay-bashing, right-wing racist loudmouth a.k.a. a fundie. Fortunately, your family wasn't composed of fundies and therefore encouraged you to think. You thought and decided God was no more real than Santa Claus. You were lucky - many children in the U.S. aren't. Many of them are met from day one not by peope who understand the bible is a metaphor, but by people who think that it is God's literal truth. They are forbidden to go to school, forced to read their bible every day and pray for hours on a hard wooden floor, beaten for disrespecting their parents, and woe are they if they ever do anything resembling critical thinking.
