What speakers do you use with your computer?

Post by Uraniun235 »

What speakers do you use with your computer? How satisfied are you with their sound quality?

I've got an Altec Lansing 2.1 set from 1998 that works okay. I'm toying with the idea of upgrading, although I have no idea what's good and worth the money.

I think I have the same...Altec Lansing 2.1 model 221. They're OK but I'd really like a nice surround sound system. Also have a pair of speakers in my monitor.

I use these speakers from Koss. They're around seven or eight years old and came with my last computer.

They still work great though.

Harman/Kardon speakers and subwoofer, not sure about the exact model.
It's Rogue, not Rouge!

Kinyo 4.1 with a subwoofer. Sound quality is good if not as good as the Bose hooked up on to my TV.

edit: Image

It's actually designed for gaming systems but it has a headphone adaptor so I just plug directly in to my MP3 or the computer for PC games and movies.

Most damning feature or rather lackthereof is bass and tremble control. It has front/rear volume control but no bass control which is most vexing as it distorts on louder volumes (edit: well, actually, just louder basslines of certain pitch). I get around this by burning CD's and playing them on the PS2, which nowadays functions mostly as a glorified CD player.

I'm wierd like that.

A Boston Digital BA790 2.1 speaker set.
There are two kinds of people in the world: the kind who think it’s perfectly reasonable to strip-search a 13-year-old girl suspected of bringing ibuprofen to school, and the kind who think those people should be kept as far away from children as possible … Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between drug warriors and child molesters.” - Jacob Sullum

An Altec Lansing ACS41 2.1 set, with the plastic 40-watt ACS250 subwoofer replaced with a 44-watt wooden subwoofer from a Labtec APX4620 2.1 set. The Altec Lansings were free, and I got the Labtec subwoofer from a local (now closed) thrift store for $10.

A set of Harman/Kardon HK 695's that I got from the Harman outlet on eBay for $40 shipped.

Klipsch Promedias they ain't, but they do have a nice balanced sound for such small speakers.

Here are the sats on my desk:

Klipsch Promedia 2.1's. Not the crappier new ones, but the glorious older models. 35 Watts per satellite, 130 Watt subwoofer. Hail to the king.

Same here, Cambridge SoundWorks SW320, which is a pair of satellites and a subwoofer. I have these since 1999 and no complaints about'em.

Logitech Z-680s. Awesome speakers.

Now, I have seen discussions in other forums where people use a home theater receiver and speakers for their computer. And they were using the expensive stuff!

A set of Yamaha YST-MS201s. They weren't that expensive at the time and Yamaha is generally a decent brand for audio, although I'd take JBL over Yamaha any day.
