Wonder if the story will pick up where DoW left off? I'm rather disappointed, given that fucking BLATANT cliffhanger, that they're turning around and focusing on Guard, rather than the Blood Ravens.

The Marines use Rhinos, Predators and Land raiders because their landing craft and Thunderhawk Transporter aren't powerful enough to carry Baneblades. Added to that, they're too slow for the Marines' preferred fast assault tactics.
As for Thudd Guns and Mole Mortars, they're made a return, in the Siegemasters guard variant force in the Epic: Swordwind expansion. Tarantulas are made by Forgeworld, in both Marine and Imperial Guard versions.

"No. I think I'd find it a bit small and wierd."
"Aren't they dangerous? Don't they get hit by stuff?"

Only in DoW, for some development reason unbeknownst to me. In "reality", IIRC it comes standard with a storm bolter, and of course you can tool it up with whatever else suits your fancy and is available for the chassis. Not to mention the Razorback variant.Rogue 9 wrote:The Rhino is a totally unarmed APC. I suppose the closest analogue the Land Raider has is an IFV, and not even that's quite right.

Doesn't that kind of thing tend to piss off the Adeptus Mechanicus?JediNeophyte wrote:Only in DoW, for some development reason unbeknownst to me. SMs aren't a subordinated group that has to kowtow to the AM. They're more on equal footing with the major power blocs of the Imperium than, say, the Guard.Rogue 9 wrote:Doesn't that kind of thing tend to piss off the Adeptus Mechanicus?JediNeophyte wrote:Only in DoW, for some development reason unbeknownst to me. Say, why are all the screenshots of Baneblades anyway? Is that all they've developed so far, or what? I would think that a body as famously armor-heavy as the Imperial Guard would have a bit more than that.

The concept art shows what seems to be a chimera cowering behind one of the Baneblades, and an Imperial Navy fighter flying overhead; I assume the reason they haven't show more mundane examples of Imperial armour is that the Baneblades have more....impact.Rogue 9 wrote:Say, why are all the screenshots of Baneblades anyway? Guard, in normal 40K, are one of the best anti-eldar forces imaginable.

Well I'm going to learn to play Guard for the same reason I play Space Marines in Dawn of War: I'm an incorrigible HABite, and the Guard is the closest thing in 40K to what we do, followed by the Space Marines.InnocentBystander wrote:Why do I get the feeling that instead of supid marines I'm going to be fighting a lot of idiot guards?

Chimeras, Sentinels both are probably tier 1, assuming they follow the same build style - which is not necessarily a given. If the Space Marines are the fist of the Emperor, then the Guard's a bulldozer.

Don't early-game speedfreak rushes get old? I know they do for me, Bystander, hence why I don't do them.

I'm not going to putz around for half an hour, I'm going to fight, maybe try and ruin your economy, something nice and evil; is it my fault some people can't turn back my assaults? I've seen Jedi do it plenty of times. It's called being prepared, if you want to tech and get dreadnaughts in 8 minutes I'll be at a disadvantage, my counter is to prevent you from doing that, make it unsafe to tech. Eldar don't hold up well in the 2 hour buildup fights, so I've got to move fast, hold the resources and keep you on your toes... I really don't have much of a choice...

Oi, I hate the implementation of grav platforms. You can build so many of them and they're ridiculously difficult to kill. They should be a limit-1 Guardian squad upgrade, like in TT. IMO, the developers erred in straying too far from the TT game. A direct port would've of course been stupid, but I dislike this radical difference too.

Well the problem is they didn't give eldar any other anti-vehicle weapons (grenades don't count). They don't even have a solid anti-vehicle vehicle, Vypers are like tin-foil and prisms are just plain stupid when it comes to targeting. You could argue wraithlords, but their shoulder brightlance is just a novelty, they are melee units. The way I see it, Eldar don't have anything else to use. Terminators do pretty well against them, as do regular SMs (considering that you put the same amount of resources into them), and orks... well orks really don't rely on vehicles too much if you ask me...

I don't see why they put in Rangers, instead of devoting their resources toward Fire Dragons or Dire Avengers, the heavy weapons of the Eldar.

The fireprism is nice at tossing around infantry, and for whatever reason it refuses to do anything but that. I might as well be ordering around Orks.
Allow me to reenact one such event.
Me: Attack Bolter Turret
Turret Gunner: Targetting SM squad, FIRE, YA! Look at them fly, whoo!
Driver: CHARGE!
Me: NO NO NO ! Turn around!
Turret Gunner: Targetting enemies nearby our troops! WHOO! Look at them fly, yaa!
Driver: Charge in further, turn slowly! Go back? NEVER!
Me: Damn you... JUMP
Turret Gunner: FIRE AT NEAREST INFANTRY!
Driver: Aww....
I feel this is a very honest representation of my relationship with Fire Prism Tanks.

Yeah, the inherent fratricide of Fire Prisms can be an awe-inspiring thing to behold. Why can't they work like D-Cannons?InnocentBystander wrote:The fireprism is nice at tossing around infantry, and for whatever reason it refuses to do anything but that. I might as well be ordering around Orks.

I especially loved grouping them up together, so you could watch a single squad of Raptors charge the leading one and then marvel as the other five Prisms blew your lead tank away in an orgy of Raptor murder.
