Grosse Point Blank is fantastic!! Did people say shit about it?
I don't think I've ever heard people tarring Grosse Point Blank. It's one of John Cusack's better movies, although his best is still "Say Anything".

Last week in my Film Analysis Tuesday night showing, we watched an experimental film called Wavelength (1967), which is a 45 minute zoom across a room while the image goes through different colour effects, and an audio tone.

Everyone else in the theatre hated it, because they thought it was insanely boring, but I enjoyed it.

Has anyone here seen Solaris? Because I really like that film. But since it's a 2 hour, 40+ minute Russian film, I'd imagine that not many others would like it. But I really want the 2-disc Criterion DVD release.

Sum of All Fears sucked harder than Star Trek TPM. lol. Actually I was just more dissappointed by it than anything.

I loved Dark City. The first time I saw it, I got to the theater after it had started, so I missed the voice over at the beginning with Sutherland's character. I bought it later and saw that part, and realized how much better the movie was without it.

I like Dark City, too.

Roger Ebert's commentary on the DVD is pretty interesting.

Read my article on AotC to see why I liked it. And I don't know why everyone hates SoAF. I thought it was a very good movie. Maybe it would be harder for someone who hadn't read the book.

I never read the book and I thought it was a good movie....As far as AotC, I couldn't stand what I saw. But I DO need to actually see the whole thing before I pass final judgement.

I liked AotC because it was a movie on multiple levels, and I'm glad that someone who hadn't read the book liked SoAF. I guess some people just didn't understand it, or maybe they were expecting an action movie.

From what I heard, it was because it wasn'tthe first-released Jack Ryan movie, and that's what everybody didn't like abou tit.

They've done tons of Jack Ryan movies. They can do a prequel. Oh well....

Absolutely! The part where he's holding up the boombox to her window (I think), and it's playing "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel--!!!!!!! *swoon* Good romant-- *ahem* [gruff, man-voice] Err, I mean, it's a great movie, if you like those macho, manly kinds of movies...Yeah... Sly Stallone should have been in it, not that pussy John Cusask....jeeeez.....[/gruff]

I actually LOVE John Cusack! He's one of my favourite actors!

Dang, Ive been meaning to post a topic like this but I was afraid of the flames I met get.

Starship Troopers: I never read the book so I took the movie to be a fun, campy, slugfest ala Robocop style.

Armagedon: I avoided this in the movies because I thought it would be a stupid. I watched it at home on cable, and thought it was a lot of fun. Not realistic, but fun in a super hero sorta way.

Coneheads: Again, I saw this on cable and it was funny.

Animated LOTR: I saw this at a very young age, and had only read the hobbit. Some of the acid trip scenes I could do without, but I still enjoyed the movie.

Dune (lynch): I saw this on video and had not read the book. I watched it in the company of a Dune fan who explained some things to me along the way.

Starship Troopers. The friend I went to see it with started laughing at it before we even got out of the theatre. I dug it for the reasons stated elswhere in this thread. Apparently, ST TMP also. The opening sequence in ANH with the SD flyover and the Klingon battle from TMP are big moments in sci-fi, if you ask me.

The Cube was great and the DVD is pretty decent. The sequel isn't supposed to be as good though.

I liked the Chameleon series. Okay, it wasn't the deepest series of movies. But it was entertaining and Bobbie Phillips is fucking hot.

I always thought the way they did the animations in the LoTR cartoon (rotoscoping) was pretty awesome. Also there was blood n stuff, which for a cartoon is very impressive.

Lemme see... Wo hu cang long was very good, most people complained about the unrealistic physics but they missed the point that it was supposed to be a damn fairy tale/folk story thingy or whatever. Just like a girl being born from a lotus flower isn't very realistic either.

Pleasantville was nice.

I don't really go to the movies that much. Oh wait Ghosts of Mars was fun, in a cheesy B-movie sort of way.
