Does anyone know of a single decent RTS game for Star Wars?
The only even half-way decent one I have seen is Warlords MOD for Homeworld 2. I mean 3-D, can actually move ships.

Star Wars doesn't have many RTS games. The only stratetgy games that Star Wars has are:
Force Commander: this game was an ok play, innovative and different from many typical RTS games but it had poor path finding, unbalanced gameplay issues, and promised more than it could deliver. It didn't help, at the time, that you required a semi super computer to play this game. The biggest issue that many players had with the game was the Command Points; you usually couldn't get enough of them and for the Rebels, since they had crappier units, it was harder to kill Imperial units. If LucasArts did a Part Deux to this game using up to date technology, it would have potential to be a great game; I'm actually hoping they will since the ending to the game left it pretty wide open.
Star Wars Rebellion: this turn based strategy game was a rather fun game to play. It required enomourous micromanagement and had crappy visuals, but for some reason, once you got into the game, all of those issues could be overlooked. I remember staying up all night when I first started this game. Eventually, I had enough credits to build myself a Death Star and once I had cornered the Rebels in their last sector, I had a field day with the Death Star.
Battlegrounds: I never got into this game because it was nothing more than a Ages of Empire clone. I lacked the majesty and grandeur that one expects from Star Wars. Seeing a droideka half the size of an AT-AT quickly makes you think "dubya tee eff." I dunno, that's just me, several other people, however, enjoy this game.
That's all that Lucas Arts has in regards to strategy games. There will be a new one coming out this fall, I believe, entitled Empire at War which will be a RTS space/ground game. It has promising graphics and classical SW elements. This game has great potential and will be, I hope, the RTS game that many SW gamers have been waiting for so long all of these years.

EaW doesn't impress me: the screens I've seen (with huge rebel tanks the size of AT-ATs, fighters crippling ISDs, and the presence of ground combat almost certainly scuppering orbital strikes) just suggest another RC-esque missed opportunity. Pretty, tho.
That HW2 starship game is good, too. Warlords, I think its called.

Those Rebel tanks aren´t the size of AT-ATs, but I´m sure they´ll be effective against them, to some degree. And this is still a game in beta-mode.

If they´re in Imperial fleets they´re not Republic anymore, sillybuns. These show large Imperial fleets - including the ageing Republic Assault Ship

Warlords, they just came out with a new version, very fun! Requries more RAM than normal HW2 (or a HD that isn't 4200rpm...ugh)Stark wrote:That HW2 starship game is good, too. Warlords, I think its called.
edit: Right right, http:// is necessary to dress links

Well, versus what almost everyone says on this board, if you get Battlegrounds with the Clone Campaigns, you can't go wrong. So what if it's like having an official Age of Empires Star Wars mod. The game fucking rocks. AoE rocked anyways. Which is why I differ from the board, I hate almost all of the old Star Wars games, and Rebellion is right there at the top of the list. I never liked it. I guess it depends on what you like though. I don't mind micro management, but I don't really care for turn based. Nothing like pounding your enemy with small forces on the front and then having simultaneous attacks all around.

cal was damn right, swgb just rocked. Age of Empires is certainly the best strategy game ever, and SWGB is the star wars version of it, and it owns all. just because the graphics arent best? at least its a game u can play, not like fucking suckin AoM or C&C: generals

Game Revolution (probably one of the best video game review sites online) gave the game a C, saying it felt more like an Age of Empires mod than an actual stand-alone game.Lex wrote:god just shut up.Stark wrote:Any game where R2 droids fuck trees for resources should be fucking banned. That is all.

as for Empire at war...it looks pretty nice, wonder if it will have the needed doodads to compete in today's market aside from the SW label.
