I'd have to say it'd be Apocalypse Now, Se7en, and Taxi Driver.

Once Were Warriors

Anyone who's only seen Temuera Morrison wearing Stormtrooper or Mandalorian armour should see this.
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials

When you take out the Universal Health Care/anti-HMO propaganda, John Q with Denzel Washington was gut-wrenching at times. I can't watch that movie to this day without a box of kleenex.

IIRC that was an Akira Kurosawa film, right? I could have bought that at a store many months/years ago on DVD, but didn't. I feel stupid for not doing so.

Kurosawa. And it's a great movie. I saw it in the theatre about five times.

I think the preferred term is "remake".

Except those samurai were wielding Colt .45 Peacemakers instead of Katana, and the Japanese Medieval clothing was a little bit incorrectly depicted. Otherwise it would made an accurate remake! :P

"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

I feel the need to mention Spirited Away. Very powerful and highly emotional for me. There is so much going on in the movie that it really was a masterwork from Miyazaki.
