The New Zelda
According to Eiji Aonuma, the upcoming GCN Zelda game will take place after Wind Waker. Coolness.

considering from what was said at E3, that they movie shown was actually taken ingame, with the game engine itself, the next zelda will be one of the best looking ones there is.
I actually love the idea of mounted combat, which is suppossed to be in the next Zelda. It's almost enough to make me want to get a Gamecube, just for that one game.
Well that and I've never played Wind Waker.....though apparently the graphics don't do the game Justice...
[edit: added in below]
I am also loving how this version of Link looks, mature, and very pissed off. This looks like a link which will kick much ass. I just wonder how they will resolve what happens to Hyrule at the end of Wind Waker, or if that will be explained in the Wind Waker 2 (not sure if this is still in development or not, last I heard they were doing both WW2 and this one)

Coolness.
As for sequel idea...given the length of time between them, I don't mind. The time expanse is absolutely huge for the most part.

There was nothing wrong with WW graphics(well, Zelda did look like a prostitute) and I personally think it was the best looking Zelda to date. Damn OOT, its that games fault, had it progressed like Mario did no one would have been bitching about WW style.

it's more a personal taste in it's graphical style for me Antichrist Bunny. I wasn't much for the cartoonish style of Wind Waker, I tried the demo version of it when it was at walmart, and just couldn't get involved in the story like I did with every other Zelda (except Majora's Mask, peice of shit that it was...)
But, according to everything I heard from E3, When Nintendo unvealed this Zelda, then announced the demo movie was actually ingame shots with the game engine...
I'm eagerly anticipating this game (muc hlike all the Zelda games), and may actually pick up a Gamecube for when this comes out this year.
As for WW2. sources from E3 did say "No, this isn't WW2, a entirely different game" An there is still rumor that a WW2 will be unvealed at E3 this year, along with all the info we been thirsting for with this new Zelda game.

First off, WW's graphics using the cel shading was one of the best ideas ever made in a video game title. Bar none. Trying to make a game look realistic when you can't (OoT, MM) just hurts it for me sometimes. Either way, WW is one of the best games out.
Second, trying to give Zelda a time line is ludicrous, because they can fit and not fit at the same time. Like MJ's timeline he found. If you think about it, there were only two triforces in play in that game, plus there was no mention of Ganon ever being locked away. Game order is just about the way the chrono should go. Zelda, then Zelda II. Later on down the line, Link to the Past and obviously Awakening. The Oracles could be slid in after that. Then WW which it's opening said, comes long after that.
All arguing aside, this new Zelda has huge potential. HUGE. Just in scale and terms, I really hope it can handle what is to me the insanely difficult task of upsurping WW as a top bill title, not to mention the best Zelda yet.

your forgetting Oracles of Time and Oracle of Season
and the new game, Minish Cap (Capcom produced this one for Nintendo, though I haven't played it yet)
Apparently this one will be between Wind Waker and Link to the Past.
we won't find that out till at very least, E3

It was explicitly mentioned by Nintendo that Link to the Past took place before the original Zelda.
Based on LTTP's backstory you can conclude that Ocarina took place before LTTP because this is when Gannon was still Ganondorf the thief.
Ganondorf becomes Ganon at the end of Ocarina and is locked away in the Dark World until the events of Link To The Past.
Ganon returns somehow in the original Zelda.
WW backstory kind of makes me think that it takes place after the original, since the idea of Hyrule being turned into waterworld and then being turned back again in time for the the original is beyond absurd.

You've simply got to play it to believe it. The screenshots don't do it justice. The animation and effects are AMAZING ingame and hideous in still shots.DarkSilver wrote:

Wind Waker is an awesome game.
This new one looks great too, though.
Well since the plain looked like Hyrule there was a lot of speculation that this would be between OoT and WW.Well that doesn't really say much. The Wind Waker follows chronologically after OoT too, so... And Aonuma stated earlier that this would not be a sequel to any game.
You tried to get involved in the story of a DEMO?DarkSilver wrote:it's more a personal taste in it's graphical style for me Antichrist Bunny. Dude. Demo's don't have stories. They just show you the gameplay :p
That'd be awesome, since according to leaks Nintendo is supposed to have a Zelda game for the Nintendo Revolution launch. As for WW2. sources from E3 did say "No, this isn't WW2, a entirely different game" An there is still rumor that a WW2 will be unvealed at E3 this year, along with all the info we been thirsting for with this new Zelda game.
WW was excellent, but I thought most Zelda's took place in totally different timelines? One and Two obviously follow one another, but L2P obviously isn't linked to that story. OoT is again different, although its (apparantly) connected to MM. So maybe now they've decided to stop changing it? Thats a bad decision.
I haven't finished WW (never will, either; I got bored). The story doesn't require OoT stuff, so how are they connected? Isn't 'Old' Link just your WW character going back in time?

Most of the Links are new Links except when they are explicitly told they're not. Like OoT Link and MM Link. Same guy.
It's the same with Zelda. The royal family has a costum of naming the firstborn daugther Zelda in honor of the first Zelda who was put into a magic sleep by some wizard. She's the one in Link's Adventure.
However, Ganon(dorf) is different. He's always the same one. He is not killed for good until the first Legend of Zelda (which is 2nd to last in the timeline followed by Link's Adventure). And even then his followers try to revive him.
Anyway thanks to the wonders of time travel in OoT the timeline kind of got messed up. Basically there are now two timelines and there are games on both of them.
One follows what happens with Link after OoT. That leads to Majora's Mask. And more or less ends there.
The other follows what happened to Hyrule after Adult Link was sent back in time again. Basically Ganon returns and Hyrule is flooded. A few hundred years later Wind Waker takes place.
At the end of WW Link and Terta sets out to find new land and most likely they find one. And call it Hyrule like the old land was called.. This is probably where the next one will be set. Whether the new Link is Wind Waker link or yet another Link is still a mystery, but a good guess would be that its a new one.

I'm the Randomly Chosen One!
I've always felt that the 2D and 3D zelda games were connected.Stark wrote:WW was excellent, but I thought most Zelda's took place in totally different timelines? A Link to the Past and the other 2d Zelda games fit well with, say, Four Swords.
OoT fits with WW.
You obviously didn't get very far. At all. Did you even get to the point where you end up in the original Hyrule, frozen in time? One of the most awesome moments in the game. You meet the original king of hyrule from the OoT timeline. You get the original OoT Master Sword. You whoop Ganondorf's butt in the final battle (incredible battle, too). You even get the Triforce of Courage the OoT Link had.I haven't finished WW (never will, either; I got bored). The story doesn't require OoT stuff, so how are they connected? The first half of the game goes off on its own, but after you save your sister (halfway through the game) the whole story REALLY unfolds.

Everything I can understand, the games are connected, though they are also complete in and of themselves (in a round about sort of way)
From what I figure, it goes something like this:
Ocarina of Time: The first Link, the Hero of Time. Gannondorf plots to get access to the Golden Land, Link accidently helps him do it. The Triforce splits apart when Gannon reaches it, and the Wisdom and Courage portions goto thier respective Holders (Zelda and Link). Link, with the aid of the seven sages, seal up Gannon in the Golden Land, which he turns into the Dark Land.
Majora's Mask: takes place immediatly after OoT, Hero of Time Link goes off on a new adventure in a new land. Gannon has no role in this, he's freshly sealed away with his minions.
Oracles of Season/Ages: the Gameboy successor to Majora's Mask, I'd say. You meet the same characters there as you do in Majora's Mask.
Wind Waker: others have explained this one better, I haven't played it, so I only know very few facts on the game. Hyrule is flooded because Gannon started to find a way out of the Golden Land, a new Link, the Hero of Wind shows up, and Gannon is sealed away again. (I really need to get a Gamecube for that game now...you people got my couriosity peeked. I have to play and end this game).
Link to the Past: After the adventures of the Hero of Time and the Hero of Wind, this game occurs. Gannon is finding a way out of the Golden Land again, using a puppet in the "Real" World to help break the seal using the Seven Sages descendents. Of course, a new Link, apparently a descendant of the Heros of Time and Wind arrives, and beats Gannon (this one has no Hero title, apparently...). The Golden Land is destroyed, and Gannon is forced into the Underworld of the "Real" World, to recover his powers.
Links Awakening: happens after Link to the Past. Link is on a raft which gets blown over, finds himself on a weird Island, and helps in awakening the Wind Fish. come to find out, the entire island was all a dream....Gannon has no role in this one.
Legend of Zelda: Gannon kindnaps Princess Zelda who has the Triforce of Wisdom, handed down her family line since Gannon first shattered the original Triforce. Everyone thinks that the Triforce is called that because it's a triangle....a new link, a descendant of the other Links before him, show sup, saves Impa the nursemaid to Zelda, and sends him on his quest. Without the Golden Land to return to to heal up, Gannon is destroyed by this new Link. He is left a pile of ash, and the Triforce of Power and Wisdom and brought together.
Adventure of Link: Impa shows Link the sleeping Princess Zelda, the first princess Zelda. A wizard cast a spell on her ages ago, and all of the royal family's daughters have been named Zelda since. She can only be awakened by the Triforce of Courage. Gannon's followers, meanwhile, want thier Master brought back, and in order to do it, they need Link's blood. While link goes off on a quest to restore the Temples and reobtain the Triforce of Courage, Gannon's minions try to kill Link. In the end, Link fights a Shadow of himself (which some claim that it is infact, Gannon himself, trying to replace Link). Link defeats the Shadow, obtains the Triforce of Courage, and Gannon is defeated forever (or until we get a true sequel to the Adventures of Link)
McNum brought about another point, some people think there's a second timelne which occurs because of Ocarina of Time. and Wind Waker happens after the Hero of Time is sent back to his child body. Thus we have two different timelines, one which Majora's Mask and Oracles of Seasons/Ages is the end of what we see, and one where Wind Waker takes place due to the destruction Gannon inflicts.
I don't see it that way, what I've read on Wind Waker, it seemed like Gannon attempting (and partially succedding at the time) to break the Seal on the Golden Land. When the people prayed for the Hero of Time to return to beat Gannon, the Gods instead flooded the world, to stop him. But, that only slows him down for awhile. That's wen the Hero of Wind arises.
And like McNum said, each Link thinks he's the first, they have no idea of thier ancestors apparently. No idea thier the next in a line of hero's who each receive the Crest of the Triforce, by the Hyrulian legends tell about thier coming each time.
Makes you wonder if you think about it to much...or be like me, a insane person who actualy tries to link everything together through the whole series (which when I get home, I am buying a gamecube and getting Wind Waker, since I saw it's only 20 bucks now....)
[on a side note: I msut be insane to actually have typed all of that.....and to actually have tried to work out the continuaty of this series....]

So OoT and WW are connected because the castle looks the same? That, frankly, is retarded. The fucking king never says 'oh there was this Link guy ages ago who grew up from faggoty elves and saved my daughter, those were the days' for instance. Or 'we should have seen the flood coming, really, after that angry asteroid shin-diggle'. Or 'I wonder why all the enemies are always the same'. He just says 'BE LINK, child. GO BACK IN TIME AND KILL GANON, my child.'
I've heard the 'first Link is last, Ganon is always the same' thing before, and its not convincing. The entire geography of Hyrule changes (and not just floods: mountains move, etc). Whole societies of faggotty elves come and go. I guess I could handle Zelda being the last in line, since absolutely everything has been destroyed except for some old idiots in caves and the 3vil castles, but eh.
In Link, was that Zelda really the first Zelda? I played that game when I was eight, and she was just 'Princess Zelda'. None of this 'Ganon golden land' thing. From what I saw (I haven't been able to finish a Zelda game since they got horribly repeditive) the Golden Land changes every time they mention it.
In WW, that stupid island just raises all its kids in the shadow of Link: you're NOT Link. You're some guy. The only way you could BE Link is if you go back in time and impersonate him. So he's either NOT Link, or Link was him all along - no other Links required. Not that I've played MM or FS or finished OoT or WW, of course.

And it was SPECIFICLY stated that that was the original Hyrule castle, the land where the Hero of Time grew up and saved from Ganon. The story is explained very clearly. How far did you get?
You haven't finished OoT OR WW? Dude, you missed out- the final bosses in both games were incredible.
Yeah, the one in WW is NOT Link from OoT. It's some kid with the same name though.
There's a long period of time in between, during which the original Hyrule along with Ganondorf's power are sealed in time underneath the ocean and the master sword is the key.
The Link from WW pulls that sword out (stupid kid!) which unfreezes hyrule and gives Ganondorf all his power back.
They're two seperate people. The OoT Link is the Hero of Time, and the WW Link is the Hero of Winds. Both, however, weilded the Master Sword and carried the Triforce of Courage.
OoT and WW are connected because they tell you at the start of WW that they're connected. Also, while they never come out and say it, I think the general idea is that Link is reincarnated.

Then I want to fight a grim battle against the unlikely duo of the Terminator and Robocop. The last level should involve (but not be limited to) multiple robo-Hitlers and a gorillasaurus rex."--Uraniun235 on his ideal FPS game
