That just means they're still making a profit for Paramount, which is all the suits there care about. They wouldn't know artistic merit if is smacked them across the face with a wet fish. The writers, on the other hand, are supposed to know.Kamakazie Sith wrote:Because for some strange reason you have not been fired yet......Perinquus wrote:Why doesn't it surprise me that they'd be indignant at the fans for not "getting" their show, rather than thinking that maybe it's they who are out of touch. Do Berman and Braga EVER look at boards like this?

Why oh why would B&B care what a bunch of geeks like us have to say? I am sure discussion like 'ISD SHIELDZ 40TTZ!!!!11' and 'GCS DESTROYEZ BY 1KT KINETIC ENERGIEZ!!!1' would be met only by laughter at how sad we all are.
Face it, while we are here debating a fictional universe [which we enjoy doing, so no shame on us] Bragga is nobbing Jeri Ryan, and I know which one I'd prefer to be doing right now ...

Well, any producer would be well advised not to treat his audience with too much contempt... if he wants to continue to have an audience that is. And frankly, I think B&B have been regarding their audience with pretty near contempt for some time now.ALI_G wrote:Why oh why would B&B care what a bunch of geeks like us have to say? And yes, there are geeks on this board, but htere are also fairly intelligent people who can tell the difference between a good story and a bad one. So many people are in agreement about how low ST has sunk these days, that I can't help but think they're on to something.

Perhaps. But the simple fact is that 95% of Trekkies don't give a damm about Treknobable. Most of them don't know what a Megaton IS, nether mind how torpedo damage ranges from extreme to WW2 level explosions between epsiodes. They watch it for the entertainment, and in this respect, although hardcore Trekkies disapprove of B&B, the current ratings speak for themselves [B&B must be doing something right ...]Perinquus wrote:Well, any producer would be well advised not to treat his audience with too much contempt... if he wants to continue to have an audience that is. Does it matter? I mean from all reports ST ratings have been plummeting haven't they? Sooner or later some TV exec is just bound to say: No.

That was funny.

Bozo and Binhead have made it quite clear that they have a vastly different perspective on Trek's goals than do the the (now mostly ex-) core fans who follow(ed) Trek. As production executives the only thing they care about is how much money Trek is raking in for Viacom. As the fanchise is still making money it's simply beyond their comprehension that anyone could regard their actions as moronic or fundamentally flawed.Perinquus wrote:Why doesn't it surprise me that they'd be indignant at the fans for not "getting" their show, rather than thinking that maybe it's they who are out of touch. It's not my place in life to make people happy. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to watch me slaughter cows you hold sacred. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to have your basic assumptions challenged. If you want bunnies in light, talk to someone else.

I want to cry
I was born in 1986, I watched TNG since I was 2, and I kept on watching, my hero was Data, the cool Robot that could beat up any foe and was funny because he didn't get things like emotions and gave a puzzled look.
I guess while most people watched X-men or Teenage Mutant Nija Turtles, I watched Star Trek.
And you know what, I'm not ashamed of that. After all, that's all Star Trek is nowadays, a kids show.
But, DS9 happened, I thought it too dark(I was a kid after all). SO I stopped watching that show. THen came Voyager, and even as a kid I was scared away from that one.
Eventually, I watched Voy again at Scorpion, I watchd the show for quite a while. Until somebody told me about Stardestroyer.net
I viewed the site, and my trekkie innocence was destroyed. I then started watching Babylon 5 and I still do. I consider it the best Scifi show ever made.(Star Wars people, Wars is a movie series, so don't yell at me)
Kinda interesting how a website can change your life, isn't it?

It probably is the best sci-fi ever produced for TV. The real big differnce between it (and other shows like Farscape) is that the people behind them care about the show. It's as simple as that, they give a damn while B&B don't.FaxModem1 wrote:I viewed the site, and my trekkie innocence was destroyed. I then started watching Babylon 5 and I still do.
