It SHOULD be good. It really should.

A combination of poor map layout, total lack of AI (passing NK jeeps just shoot as you go past, they don't intercept you, or chase you, or call in backup or anything), the ludicrous amount of damage you can take, the hopelessly inaccurate guns, and a sort of bizarre ennui that is contrasted by the energy of GTA. Its got everything there, they just didn't do a very good job.

Anyone else have thoughts?

I'd agree with most of that. I didn't find the guns all that inaccurate, I thought it was about on par with other, similar games.

My biggest problem with Mercanaries was the fact that I just didn't care. Sure, blowing shit up with extreme prejudice is cool, for about a half hour. After that, I'd like some sort of story along with the blowing shit up, and Mercenaries just doesn't have it. Not only that, but in the GTA games, it seemed like there was always something to do, and the missions were varied. There's just not much to break up the monotony in Mercenaries.

I totally agree. After you've had a go at everything, the game just doesn't hold your attention. You WANT to steal cars and drive like a maniac in GTA: in Mercenaries nothing seems worth the trouble. I'd suggest that is because you're never chased, never in real danger, and can destroy an entire NK military base with SAMs, tanks and infantry with no bother, ALONE. In GTA, half the fun of breaking the law is fleeing the cops, fighting the gangs, doing bunnyhops over fences, etc.
