There will be roughly 60 bajillion Trillion Zillion planets meeting those requirements. Worlds with plenty of dity entertainment are rife. There is no special "Casino Planet," why would there be?Cabwi Desco wrote:just wondering. are there any powers out there that have a planet or system or something thats like a paralel to Las Vegas? you know, cheap whores, cheap booze and gambling?

I dont know like i said maybe because there was one on the original BSG, then again i was just wondering.
Another thing, are we allowed to expand into unclaimed space at will as long as we have the forces to back such a thing up or is 'open space' closed like the frontier west in the middle 19th century? cause i tell ya, theres a good bit around me and i'd like a bit of an expansion into that open space. I guess this is all assuming there are any star systems even in that area for occupation, right? because unless theres some game rule or in-game injunction enforced by the ERTC on the rest of the galaxy i dont see any reason for non-expansionistic tendencies.

You are no where near the Eastern Rim Trade Route, and as such, will probably not instigate the ire of our little confederation of upstart new powers. Unclaimed space generally consists of a combination of feifdoms, empty systems, and small independent worlds. It costs ships and men to take the region, and expect a long time to pass before such lightly industrialised territory yields results- though it can provide the raw materials for rather extensive building projects.
Expect to face opposition for any major conquests, though. It's not common knowledge, but the Quadruple Entente generally will fund resistance and insurgents against any imperial power.

what is this confederation you speak of? should i be warned of them?Thirdfain wrote:You are no where near the Eastern Rim Trade Route, and as such, will probably not instigate the ire of our little confederation of upstart new powers.
so what youre saying is its okay if i expand say 2 milimeters into open space map wise as long as i have the power to back it up?Unclaimed space generally consists of a combination of feifdoms, empty systems, and small independent worlds. oh of course nothing major just like I said just a small expansion outwards to expand the size of my power and bring in a little extra raw materials. nothing hostile just moving outwards a little. and were not imperial, were expansionist, there is a difference.[/quote]Expect to face opposition for any major conquests, though. The ERTC is not a confederation. Look at the map, and notice the Eastern Rim Trade Route. You'll see it has a number of nodes- Ambrosia, the Azegart Empire, and Corneria Station. These are all provinces of the Three Suns Commonwealth, a young but powerful nation. this nation relies upon trade between these colonies for income.
Sadly, these territories are connected by trade routes that run through thr Great Waste, a haven for pirates and criminals, and as such, they are faced with the constant scourge of a hundred pirate fiefdoms and bands. The other young nations along this band, including the Knights Templar, the Rpblrssk, and others, face similar problems.
To combat this, the civilized nations of the Eastern Rim formed a trading alliance, the Eastern Rim Trade Compact, or ERTC. This organization is very weak compared to the Quadruple Entente, but is more than strong enough to provide protection for convoys moving along the Eastern Rim. The ERTC enforces peace in the Eastern Rim as well, protecting the interests of civilization by opposing any problems with immediate action, through resolutions, diplomacy, and, if necessary, force.
-edit- Second page of the OOB thread, near the bottom, has a complete list of the nations in the ERTC, along with the ERTC Charter, the rules which govern said organization.

Conflict in which the Three Suns Commonwealth was attacked by two other powers- namely, the People's Republic of Corneria and the Star Empire of Krytos. The Commonwealth, along with the rest of the Grand Alliance, had crushed the expansionistic, xenophobic Azegart Empire. Survivors of the previous Azegart regime had escaped, seeking to raise funding and support for a counter-attack.
The counter-attack took two forms. The first was diplomatic, spearheaded by the Affront. This effort convinced other members of the Grand Alliance to desert the organization, leaving only the Commonwealth and the Outworlders (the Alliance's weakest member.) This choice would doom the Aquarian Union to eventual defeat, as their abandonment of the Alliance spelled their death.
The second was military. The Commonwealth was engaged in a number of conflicts: a war against the despotic Empire of Brisbane, and the extensive occupation of the Azegart Empire.
The People's Republic of Corneria launched a full assualt, launching a full 60% of their fleet at the Commonwealth home systems, and a further two battle groups at the now-vulnerable Commonwealth and Provisional Azegart forces in the region of the Provisional capital of Ulrich. With a large section of the Commonwealth fleet tied up over Brisbane, victory was assured.
Only a day later, the weight of the Cornerian fleet fell upon the Commonwealth capital, Desjardins. Using a Superlaser, they rendered the world uninhabited. Desjardins had been a city-world with a population in the hundreds of billions. The Commonwealth, distraught and hungry for vengeance, dispatched 60% of their fleet towards Corneria.
The rest of the war was history, Outnumbered and outgunned, the Commonwealth forces lost over Desjardins and Jacob's Landing. Both major worlds were struck by Cornerian Superlasers. Krytosian forces began a full military invasion, landing on the secondary industrial world of Coventry. The Commonwealth was at the ropes.
The Cornerian fleet, comeplete with superlaser, arrived over Desjardins for the second time. Their goal was simple: the destruction of the precious Commonwealth dreadnought shipyards, which had survived the devastation of the planet itself, in high orbit. The mass of the Commonwealth defensive fleet was in place, but was outnumbered 2-3.
At the moment of choice, Quadruple Entente vessels from the Kzinti Patriarchy and United Terran Republics burst from hyperspace. FTL Inhibitors sprang into action across the Commonwealth fleet, and the Cornerian striking element was trapped. The Cornerian assault fleet was slaughtered to the last vessel at the battle of Second Desjardins. Meanwhile, the Krytos battlewagons, beset by Serenite Marine vessels, decided to escape once the Cornerian warfleet was defanged.
Over Corneria, a Commonwealth assault fleet dropped from hyperspace. Supported by Corsair Republic mercenaries, the Commonwealth vessels landed millions of Marines and Legionnaires. With the defeat of the Assault Fleet, the Party was demoralized and weakened. within weeks, the People's Republic had split into dozens of warring factions. The People's Republic of Corneria was no more. Krytos and her allies were forced into punitive treaties, and the People's War ended with the Commonwealth intact and strong, and the Quadruple Entente confirmed as the primary power in Known Space.
The Three Suns Commonwealth, perpetrator of the event, was shocked by the sheer power of the Entente- but, after bloody, violent, war- they were free.

I'm just remembering how awesome Second Desjardins was. The QE just came in from left field, and we annihilated the PRC fleet. I think I might have to go to the archive board and look it up againThirdfain wrote:-edit- Wow, not an bad recap... any thoughts, additions, edits?

Hrm. Bias in the accounting! They left out where the Alliance boosted the majority of a city off a Cornerian planet.

I don't use hyperspace, that is correct The Corporation still uses a instantaneous jump drive system (with subjective travel time for the ships involved), though I limited its insta-range, to several light years "due to galactic conditions" so that I can't jump around the galaxy without delay (though inside my territory that is a different matter entirely...)InnocentBystander wrote:Didn't the Stuart Corp plan some sort of hyperlane (though I seem to recall them not using hyperspace, but some whatever...) down toward Blue Pointe Station?
For the Hyperlane: I posted a postie a while back detailing the construction of two stations at my border as anchor point for this hyperlane and me sending ships to aid in the construction effort of the blue pointe. Won't extend into my territory though. I could post that some of my ships help clear the lane in the general direction of blue pointe.
