Save the Christmas Trees!

Post by jegs2 »

In this day and age of environmentalism, I've often wondered where the myriad of protesters were around Christmas tree farms. Just think of it -- poor defenseless trees, ruthlessly cut down, and for what: To serve as a short-term decoration... Barbarians! How dare they! We must save the Christmas trees -- only fake Christmas trees should be allowed!

Personally, I don't care, but I've often wondered why environmentalist whackos don't make it an issue...

I recommend use of an artificial tree. Not out of any sense of alturism or that crap, but because it saves the time of picking one out and cleaning up fallen needles.

Last year, my wife and I got one of those pre-lit fake trees that look real (say that three times fast). The thing sits on a stand that rotates the tree -- it wasn't cheap, but it looks nice.

<scrooge>Christmas? Bah, humbug. It's a waste of time.</scrooge>

Seriously though, I don't celebrate Christmas. I mean... it's the birthday of the founder of Christianity... why would anyone want to celebrate that?

Eh. I've got one that has no decorations and prefectly simulates a normal tree. We've got lots of ornaments, so there's no way my family will ever get a pre-decorated tree.

We dont get trees anymore. Not out of any environemental issues though. It just a hassle now days.

When I got my Environmental Studies degree I vaguely remember most of the bunny hugger types being opposed to x-mas trees but more from a solid waste point of view, than from a chopping down trees point of view.

The only reason I value natural Christmas Trees is that it stop coastal erosion, and from my future house from flooding.

Maybe because they like getting free stuff?

I celebrate it because I believe in Christ, but I'd rather have a nativity scene than a tree. If I do get a tree I'd rather have artificial - less mess and hassle.

I second getting an artificial tree. We have four of them (my mom really loves decorating for Christmas, and it all looks really nice). To get a good one you have to spend quite a bit of money, but not as much as you used to.

Christmas has pretty much become a secular holiday. They celebrate it in Japan, without the religious stuff.

Natural trees look better and smell nice. Besides, they make the cat go wacko for a few weeks.

I'm proud to say that for more than 20 years, we had the Ugliest Christmas Tree in the Entire World. My parents bought it used in 1974. It looked like a 6 foot tall toilet brush.

Seriously, artificial trees are better because they're not a fire hazard. If a real tree dries out, it's like keeping a giant torch in your living room.

I'd rather not celebrate christmas, but I do admit it is fun to plant an axe into something....

I don't know about the celebrate bit but having a tree is one place to hang your DS2 ornament. :D
