Star Wars the Clone Wars Vol. 1 DVD
The Clone Wars series is due out on DVD in a few weeks. Now I've never seen a single episoide (it was on when I was extremely busy at work so I always missed it) is it worth it to get as a Star Wars fan? I know that each cartoon was only supposed to be like 5-10 minutes long but how good were the stories? Rental instead?

While it's quite good, it starts out a bit rough, and the character designs and animation style are frankly rather off-putting. I'd play it safe and give it a rental test drive first before buying.
Although on the plus, the episodes are all edited together into a single ~50 minute feature, so it flows a lot better than when they originally aired.

I believe in a sign of Zeta.

Season 2 was the best one...
Liked season 1 better. Heavy artillery blasting city blocks, a freaky alien mercenary, ARCs in action, Mon Calamari and the huge underwater artillery-piece etc...
Season 2 had über-Mace on Dantooine and some duels I got bored with. Suspending disbelief is one thing, but that Anakin vs. Ventress duel just went on for too long, and with too many über-powers and surviving said powers, for me to truely care. Ch. 20 did redeem it somewhat, and I´m hoping Season 3 will beat both previous seasons.

If you're into Genndy Tartakovsky style animation, (I am. He is the guy behind such series as Dexter's Laboratory and Powerpuff Girls) it's quite good. Personally, that's why I enjoyed it, more than the storyline. I tried to detach myself from the fact that it was part of the SW continuity and just took it for what it was- that is, cool. Is it worth it? Let me put it this way- Ima get it.
Both seasons were ok. they were short enough that it didn't really matter in the long run if they were all the bad. At least imo, if there was something in one of the eps you just have to wait for one or two later and it's fine. But then I was able to watch them all at once, one after another.
Looking forward to season three, though while there aren't going to be as many eps, they are going to be longer.

I think it's worth it. The crappy Samurai Jack-like artwork annoyed me at first, but I found it surprisingly easy to get used to. The action is wankish, and some of the weaponry is obviously style over substance. However, the action is extremely fast paced, exciting, and surprisingly brutal. The CGI is impressive, of course. You'll also be able to get a first glimpse of ROTS characters like General Grievous.

If you like Samurai Jack like cartoons Clone Wars is ok for you. But for me it was dissapointing, No real plot, bad animation, no memorable characters are just some of the cartoons shortcomings. On the plus side there are some cool technology and new characters. And it gives a better indepth look at how Clonetroopers fight battles. The lightsaber duels were good too with excellent use of Force powers like telekinesis and enhanced speed.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.
Hmmmm....I'm leaning towards rental for now. I think they're asking for a bit much for 50 minutes of cartoon that I may or may not like even as a Star Wars fan.

We've been over the canoniscity of CW several times.
Clone Wars is a television production, and all the television productions are C level canon.

Don't forget Samurai Jack! The monotonous "slice 'n' dice" repetative fighting style from that show is mirrored in CW. I liked it.Chardok wrote:If you're into Genndy Tartakovsky style animation, (I am. He is the guy behind such series as Dexter's Laboratory and Powerpuff Girls) it's quite good. Japanime fans may disagree, but so what.

They're already online for Hyperspace subscribers. LucasArts puts it on their web site. You just can't get to it unless you're a subscriber.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Dude, that's kinda fucking illegal.
It's not like they were ripped from a DVD.
IIRC the only ones that can get in trouble are the servers hosting it.
When I downloaded them they were being hosted by AOL in fact, on their official servers. Totally legal. AOL took them down, oh, 6 months later, because LucasArts wanted to get subscribers, but I'd already downloaded most of them.
EDIT: Out of curiosity. Since they used to be legally online via AOL, and since LucasArts still has them on hyperspace, IS it illegal to download them?
I realize it'd be 100% illegal to download a DVD, but we're talking about quicktime files that were originally hosted by LucasFilm and AOL and now aren't. Or is it now illegal to mirror files on the internet?

....... Any special key words to google for?
Why wonder why? The answer is simple: obviously, someone somewhere decided that he or she needed Baby Jesus up the ass.

No, as I said, we're talking about the quicktime files from AOL and Starwars.com, not the DVD.Elheru Aran wrote:Dude, just use the title of this thread...Lone_Prodigy wrote:....... Any special key words to google for?
I'd suggest when googling use these keywords: "index of" and "clone wars" and .mov
If you are a Hyperspace subscriber you are entitled to backup anything you see, as long as you aren't distributing it. It's like watching tv or even Pay-per-view you are allowed to tape/rip it to your hearts desire as long as it's not distributed. So the answer is if you can't legally watch them, you can't download/back them up.Praxis wrote:EDIT: Out of curiosity. What about the AOL ones? They used to be available publicly, for anyone to watch, before they took them down. I even have the old link bookmarked, though you can't get them anymore.Meest wrote:If you are a Hyperspace subscriber you are entitled to backup anything you see, as long as you aren't distributing it. For quite a while they were available for anyone to watch...

Yeah, but now people can't. That's pretty much the point: places like AOL and CartoonNetwork.com were legally distributing them for the timespan they were given. Those legal lisences have since expired, and now the proper legal way to get the series is to purchase the DVD.

Well, all the old google-found sites hosting it have since gone down anyway.
