Silent Hill movie lurches into view
The scramble to put every videogame in ever onto the big screen continues apace with Silent Hill.
(Well, it's been bubbling under for a while now....)
Plot details so far indicate that it will be a bastard hybrid of the first two games, with a female lead character called Rose looking for her terminally ill daughter in Silent Hill.
The only character confirmed from the games is Cybil, but there's a description of someone much like Alessa as well.
It will be directed by Christophe Gans (Brotherhood of the Wolf), and the writing will ome from Roger Avary (who, among other things, wrote some of the stories in Pulp Fiction)
Here, have an Empire

If this movie does not scare my frikkin testicles off then it is a failure.
If for some reason it becomes an action movie and not a horror movie it will be the biggest tradgedy ever!

in order to make this game worthy of the name Silent Hill, it must
a) be pure horror
b) NOT be dumbed down so it will attain a PG13 rating. Go for the "R" rating you bastards, go for the "R"!
otherwise, this movie will fricking suck.
but, Brotherhood of the Wolf was pretty good, so this may be decent.

Cult of Vin Diesel: While it is well known that James Earl Jones performed the voice of Darth Vader, it is less appreciated that Vin Diesel performs the voice of James Earl Jones.

If by "any good" you mean "sloppy and slipshod", you are correct. They had a great IDEA with the original, but TERRIBLE execution... it made NO sense.Only the first Silent Hill was any good
That said... as with every movie, I'm going to wait until more details are out until I see this.

SPOOFE, I agree. It was a great idea, and had some good spots, but it was a bit of a failure.
And no. Silent Hill 2 was disappointing, short, easy, predicatble, etc etc. It was shit, unimaginative, derivative, and boring. The 'twist ending' was so hilariously obvious it makes me laugh to call it a 'twist'. HA!

Quite right, but again, you can use that other film as another example of videogame movies sucking and Uwe Boll being the reincarnation of Ed Wood. All in all, I'm not getting my hopes up here.SylasGaunt wrote:I believe you're referring to Alone in the Dark for that bit Valde.. House of the Dead was a light-gun arcade shooter so it was already firmly in the 'blast, blast, and blast some more' action category.
I hope they do the fog element good, not being able to see a foot in front of you then having to follow trails of blood was creepy. Also those lil baby shadow demons with knives in the school, hope those are used and done right. Tons of potential but as always they will bastardize the game story into straight to video horror cheese.

Yeah, SH2 was also similarly flawed... a few good ideas, great imagery... I thought the mental hospital level was brilliant... but all of the SH games have had a very rocky execution. SH3 was the goriest, most violent of the three, but its "connection" to the earlier game was very forced.
Hopefully the movie can provide a very elegant explanation for the evil going on in Silent Hill. The games do tell you what's going on, but it's all behind a veil of vague mystery.... no character can simply out-and-out SAY what the fuck is happening. It all has to be inferred, and I hate that.
Maybe. I hear Konami is keeping a close eye on things, though, so that gives me a little more hope. I'm still not holding my breath, however.Tons of potential but as always they will bastardize the game story into straight to video horror cheese.

Your mind was obviously very good at pulling data from thin air then, since to 90% of the gaming world, it comes as some sort of surprise that James killed Mary only a week before the events of the game and everything he experiences in Silent Hill is his repressed memories and guilt returning to him. The game barely tells you anything that allows you to draw that conclusion before you find out, partly because it is vague, and partly because it distracts you with Eddie and Angela.
HAHAHAHAHA.
I thought it was almost immediately obvious. I don't have SH2 anymore, so I can't go for a run-through to refresh myself, but once they start talking bout the tape, and it becomes clear that James has serious issues, its pretty obvious. He wears a guilt-ridden expression for the whole game!
