Cool pic.

I like their expressions, Luke's is one of a sort of wondrous fear. Anakin has a steely determination.

EDIT: Also, what is that at the bottom of Anakin's blade? :?

What do you mean? Blade as in hilt or blade as in blue shaft of light?

it's just part of the hilt that's not visible in Luke's pic.

It's the "sight" thing that was on the hot end of Luke's father's sabre-- the short right-angle projection. It's just a bit thinner on Anakin's sabre, that's all.
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

Also, does anybody here get the impression that Anakin's sabre handle is perhaps thinner than Luke's? Anakin certainly doesn't seem to be holding his hands as wide open as Luke's...

Perhaps Anakin has larger hands. I mean he is supposed to be a head taller than Luke, so his physical dimensions might be a little different.
The optimist thinks, that we live in the best of all possible worlds and the pessimist is afraid, that this is true.

There was a bit of a commotion over at MillenniumFalcon.com when that comparison was posted. The main issues was the way Mark Hamill looked and the way he was holding his lightsabre (as well as the sabre itself).

The image of Luke was part of a series of publicity photos that were taken sometime after Star Wars was released. Hamill had already had his car accident and the resulting plastic surgery, which is why he more resembles Luke from ESB than ANH.

In the same series of photos, Harrison Ford's hair was much shorter than it was in Star Wars because it had been cut for his role in 1978's Force 10 from Navarone, which was filming at the time the pictures were taken.

Concerning Luke's lightsabre, the photo has been altered besides the obvious addition of the blade. In the original photo Hamill was actually holding a sabre hilt made for the Holiday Special, which was considerably different from Anakin's ANH hilt (it was basically a rather plain and unremarkably detailed metal tube, but I could look for an image for those interested). That sabre hilt was recently replaced in the image with the more correct Anakin hilt, except with the ESB version, which was slightly different from the ANH one.

Oh, and the issue over how Hamill was holding the sabre was that some people thought the grip and stance was wrong, like he was holding a bat or racket with a reversed grip and standing as if he had just taken a swing.

It could be seen that way from a certain point of view; the Anakin of ROTS is a fully-trained Jedi whereas Luke is the whiny rookie. Who else are you going to trust to hold the lightsaber the right way? 8)

Anakin's sabre is slighty different from Luke's, in that they had to subtly redesign both Luke and Obi-Wan's Episode IV sabre because their shape made duelling with them at the speed and precision required counter-intuitive. Go to Master Replicas, you can see the difference. Of course, to the casual observer, they're the same sabres, and the difference can easily be chalked up to 20 years worth of aging, for the most part (this is better for Obi-Wan's sabre than it is for Anakin's).

I didn't like the new sabres they designed for Obi-Wan in Episode I and II. They should've just given him his ANH sabre from the start and stuck with it the whole way through. Anakin's Episode II sabre was awesome though- too bad it got chopped in half and never did some serious duelling ...
