New Zealand

I'm thinking about going to New Zealand soon as I can. So, what languages do they speak there? What season is the best to go there? What part is the best to visit? Just curious.

The 'Kiwis' speak English, of course. Since New Zealand is located on the southern hemmisphere, they've got winter when Europe and North America have summer. I would probably visit the northern island, which is more populated, methinks.

That's all I can say. I know almost nothing about NZ.

My dad took a vacation there. He thought it was a beautiful place. But its not a heavily urbanized place, I think most people go there for scenery.

Yeah, I want to go because I love scenery. I like to sketch so I was thinking of doing that while I was there.

Language-English. They're a former (?) British coloney.

Seasons-do they have anything under -2 degrees celcius?

I think in the mountains. There are some ski resorts there. But I dont believe they are very good. At least thats what Ive heard. During the winter here, its not uncommon to see New Zealander and Australian teens working in the ski resorts in California.

Yes there a former UK colony. I believe like many of them the Queen is still the head of state though.

She has no power. Technically the Queen's our head of state (represented by the Govoner-General). But really, it's just for show.

Well as a New Zealander I can be more accrate than the others in this thread :)

Language is Maori, and if you dont speak it you shall be cooked alive in a earth oven called a hangi

Actually, the official languages are English and Maori, allthough English is the primary and common language of commerce and..well everything.

Seasons, well it depends on what you want to do. NZ is a temperate nation but if you want to do the beach thing I would reccomend the top of the south island or the North Island but if seanery is your thing the south Island wins hands down {I should know, I have been over most of the country, north and south}.
Skiing: it should be ok, but the last few years have been screwing things up, El Ninio or whatever it is has fouled it up somewhat, but this year was passable, you just have to pick you moments. Also if you do come here, bring warm cloths and a good jacket as the weather can change suddenly.

The bulk of the population is in the North and mainly in the land of late drinkng pooftas known as Auckland. Capital is Wellington {Lord of the Rings series was filmed in and near Wellington} the best Rugby is played in Canturbury 8) and if you are Scottish leave the damn sheep alone!

Not quite. The Queen is representd by the Govenor general who exercizes the royal perogative on the advice of the responsible government of the day. To paraphrase Walter Bagehot, New Zeland is a republic with the facade of monarchy. Having said that it is not true to say that the monarch or the GG in her place has no power, it is just very circumscribed and there are very few, if any, circumstances where the powers could be used. The GG, on a day to day basis, like the Queen in Britain can, and indeed must "Advise, warn and Encourage" the PM and government of the day.
