Best type of shielding

Post by Exonerate »

SW shielding: Able to stand up to massive amounts of damage.
ST shielding: More worthless than paper hulls.
AT-Field: Powerful, but not in the league of SW shields. Can block electromagnetic emissions, and stop psychic attacks.
Fundie Wall of Ignorance: Renders the user impervious to logic and psychic attacks, and also boosts the efficency of Ad Hominem and illogical arguments.
If anybody thinks of anymore types of shielding, feel free to put it down :)

Character Shields: duh
Mental Density Shielding: absorbs all conceps and looses it into the void of idiocy

Honorverse Impeller Wedges...top and bottom of ship are completely invulnerable (but also can't be seen or fired out of), sides are highly shielded, bow and aft are lightly shielded (by standard particle and ray shielding).

I was just nominating it to go on the list. If ST "wet tissue paper" shielding's good enough, well, let's just say you could argue for a bare-naked armored hull against that.

Of course, they're damn good shields. But they're a long way from invulnerable.

Distortion Field (Martian Sucessor Nadesico.) As powerful as an AT-field, but you don't need to be an angel half-breed to use it. :P
data_link has resigned from the board after proving himself to be a relentless strawman-using asshole in this thread and being too much of a pussy to deal with the inevitable flames. Buh-bye.

character shield on an idiot with the wall of ignorance, whose author wants to milk for every cent possible before the fans leave in disgust.

Sadly given some fans...heck they wanted more...I say they could've done another DB just to milk it yet some more.

But yes Character bolstered by the creator lust for money shielding is truly invincible.

You know, I like Dragonball a lot, and Dragonball Z had its good times, but some of the crap they pull in the Majin Buu saga is enough to make me want to hunt down Akira Toriyama, and then give him an Atomic Wdgie at the start of each day for the rest of eternity.

I think Mihoshi from Tenchi Muyo has the best character shielding.

No.

The best character shielding ever is that of Groo. You cannot defeat the Groo.

Actually, Mihoshi and Groo both have character shields of the same basic nature, such that their astounding idiocy doesn't hurt them, regardless of how much colatteral damage has been caused.
Groo is a comic book character, who pretty much destroys everything he comes into contact with through his own stupidity and ineptitude.

Fighter has superior character shielding. He has been hit with nuclear-level HADOKEN's, yet is unharmed. He is hit with an invincible peice of furniture, and the furniture broke before his infinitely dense skull did.

Actually, there's been some specilatuion from fanatics who have read all the sourcebooks, art books, interviews etc. that there IS someone looking out for Mihoshi. Apparently there's evidence for it, but I got tired of reading it half way through (and now I lost the link).

OKM shields from Path of the Fury.
Completely and toataly impervious to any weapon fired at it. Granted, you cannot fire out of it, or maneuvre, but you're still damned safe when activated.

OKM shields aren't fully tested against absolutely everything, Commodore Howell had some serious doubts about their ability to stop a Battlecruiser ramming for instance

Thats because the Battlecruiser is in a constant state of free fall into a black hole, so the issue is a big enough & fast enough black hole colliding with the OKM shield might kill it.

Some of the most effective shields are those which are protecting organic ships and keeping them better protected than metallic ships.....

(eg. Tyranid shields from the Warhammer 40K universe)
