ARC-170 (Spoilers)

Post by Aaron »

Here is the ARC-170.

Anyone else see the resemblance to WWII torpedo bombers?

Actually, that double-bubble cockpit design, reminds me more of the 'Blackwidow' night fighter. But your right it has a definite WWII feel to it.

Yeah, both the cockpit design and the tailguns are what made me think of WWII aircraft.

On another note, whats the purpose of the S-Foils? They don't seem to hold weapons like the the other fighters we've seen with them.

The ARC-170's been known about for quite a while... though admittedly you'd have to frequent or at least occasionally look through the spoilers thread to be aware of that.

That said, I personally think it's rather nice lookin'...

Yeah, I avoid the spoiler thread. I only found this because a friend sent me a link to it.

It is rather nice looking though.

Could be something to give it some flexibility in dealing with different atmospheres when fighting near the surface.

Its not a superiority fighter tho, right? It's some sort of gunship or attack plane? I don't get why it's so big.

It's like a Sturmovik or TBD. 8) It's bigger because it carries a gunner and probably extra weapons.

Well it looks like it carries three people. So it might be equivilant too a B-Wing, a heavy assualt fighter. Designed to take on capital ships.

It really doesn't look that big in the movie pics that have been leaked / released, particularly the one where they are flanking Anakin and Obi's fighters but then size is hard to judge in space.

This pic of the LEGO toy shows it dropping something. Maybe it's a bomber? That would fit nicely with it's multiple crew.

Um, guys, this thing is like ages old.

I mean the picture itself is from August.

Was it discussed outside the Spoilers thread?

One of the the things I wish they had done in the art dept. with the prequels, was to draw off of WWI and previous wars on thier conflict engagements and equipment. The OT was rife with WWII influences. I definitely like how the art work is shaping up for EIII though.

I love the rear laser and the three-man crew.

And the laser cannons are HUGE.

Of course, I was the one who first posted this pic back when it came out ... you can also see the fighter in the teaser trailer, numerous lego pictures, and the Before the Helmet feature if you have access to hyperspace.

It looks like it's armed with some sort of proton bomb.

how x wings have manuvering juets on the s-foils...
Then I guess there´s a good use for the four smaller S-foils with manouvering jets, since the ARC's only have two small engines instead of the X-Wing's four.

It'd be good if it was a bomber - the 'B-wing is a bomber' thing always made me laugh, given its retardedly small size and 'cockpit, engine and some wingy bits' structure.

Does the ARC-170 have two rear guns? A second one appears to be pointed aft from somewhere near the engines. And those huge guns (with the little guns on it) had better be shown doing something hardcore: they're similar size to the DS1 air defence guns we see in ANH.
