ship design

I think he's saying that any difference in shield capabilities between the ISD-I and the ISD-II was never mentioned or shown in the movies. Are you saying that shielding on Wars ships is not canon?
In either case, I've always liked solid-looking vessels... the ISD design is definitely very solid and rugged, as are most of the Mon Cal designs (even if Home One is a tad... phallic...)

Corellian gunships are cool, I like the blocky all attack design.
The original Borg cube was cool, though once Voyager came around it was no longer so.

Wars: XJ3 type X-wing. Double shields, stronger hull, faster then an A-wing, more manuverable then a TIE Interceptor, 12 torps, 4 heavy laser cannons.
Quite possibly the best fighter ever in the series, with the E-wing and Tie Defender coming close.
Trek: Always been a big fan of the D'Dredrix Warbird.

From ST, from the TOS/movies era, I really, really, really like the Miranda. The design screams 'tactical/multirole cruiser.' I like it a lot.
However... that being said, the TNG era has some... interesting designs. From that era I like the Akira the 'battleship/carrier'. (I can't imagine one of the members of the Akira-class not being called 'Nadesico'....) But there's one from the old Simon and Schuster Dominion Wars game, called the Achilles-class. It's pretty much a pocket battleship, with high maneuverability -- supposedly, something that has the firepower and range of a Galaxy-class, and the maneuverability and durability of the Defiant-class. And it's got nice, aggro lines. Still, it's pretty much a munchkiny ship-du-jour.
As for SW... the YT-1300 just has so much charm, I'd be remiss if I didn't name it. Though for sheer 'This is not a good day for you' value, I'd go with an Interdiction Star Destroyer. 'Stay right there... I have a gigaton delivery for you....' That or one of those pre-gravwell cruiser. I like medium, flexible ships. [/url]

For Star Wars I like the Hapan Battle Dragon. Let's face it, it's unique...
(Modified Nebulon-B frigate comes a close second)
For Trek, the Voth City Ship from Voyager (ep. "Distant Origin") It doesn't look like a Man'O'War, but it is still a nice design.

Pick one from each? No way!
Star Wars:
SSD
ISD-The differences are minor in terms of asthetic appeal.
Corellian Corvette
Republic Cruiser
TIE Advanced X-1
Star Trek
Klingon D-7 or K'tinga
Refit Constellation
Miranda
And the SFB based, non-canonical, Klingon B-10

Yeah... how do people justify that sort of thing to themselves when they design that kinda stuff?ViciousMink wrote:But there's one from the old Simon and Schuster Dominion Wars game, called the Achilles-class. I mean... if it's got the firepower/range of a GCS in a smaller body, shouldn't they be able to take that technology and apply it to a larger chassis creating a ship with even more firepower than their little munchkiship?

Can't go wrong with the ISD, with the YT 2000 a close second.

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

It hard for me to pick a Favorite from Star Wars, seeing how like so many of them.
The Eclips class SSD
The Executor
The Falcon
ISD
Nebula B
Corvets
All kinds of fighters
I really can't think of any I don't like.
Star Trek is the opposet.
The only Trek ship I've ever thought was cool was the Kilingon BoP.

ISD Mk1 - the original Devastator
Shadow, you don't identify them by the array in between the domes- you identify them by the heavy turrets and the engines- if there's triple baffles, you're looking at a Mk 1.

So we don't see any changes in the armor? The armor never showed change in appearance. It is impossible see change in shielding(which is not canon).
look at the terraces. No differences?
Also note the bridge tower configuration: it's Devastator without the X shaped tractor beam array.
The heavy turrets on both classes are circular in shape, it proves nothing. The turbolasers look like circles, as they should in an ISD Mark-II.
The tower is too far away too far away to see in detail, and the hangar is not in view
It's not too far away to see the configuration. Look closely, and you'll notice it's the same like in image 1. It's Devastator.
