Does Leia ever use a Light Sabre?
A friend of mine recently ran for election as a sab at the student union, for reasons best known to herself she used a star wars based campaign which prominently featured her as princess Leia wielding a light sabre. Instead of gaining the geek vote as hoped this instead sparked a prolonged debate amongst them about whether or not Leia ever actually handled a sabre (films, comics, novels whatever) unfortunately for my friend it would seem they were too busy arguing about this crucial issue to vote for her and she wasn’t elected.
So could anybody put our minds at rest does Leia ever use a Light Sabre and if so where?

IIRC she has one in the thrawn trilogy. It's purple.

I might be confusing purple with red.

Yeah, the EU is rife with examples of Leia using a lightsaber, especially the NJO. However, the only comic example that springs directly to mind is an issue of Star Wars Tales, but that's Infinities grade canon.
You could check the book covers from the NJO and see if any of them have her bearing a lightsaber.

In Mr. Zahn's trilogy, Councilor Organa Solo used a lightsaber constructed for her by her brother; the comic adaptations showed it as having a green blade; apparently she lost this weapon at some point, probably by accidentally leaving it on Coruscant when the New Republic fled. In Dark Empire, she was given a lightsaber by Vima-Da-Boda, which the Galactic Emperor disintegrated; she then stole a lightsaber in his quarters, which appeared to have a blue blade. She probably stopped using this weapon at a later date, given its connection to the Galactic Emperor.

Leie does indeed use a lightsaber, and though she never underwent the formal Jedi training, she's supposed to be fairly good. She uses it in Specter of the Past or Vision of the Future, one of the two. Think it might be Specter. As to it's color, up until Balance Point she carried a red lightsaber. I can't recall what color saber she used after Balance Point, or if she even had another one. I think she did, but I don't own any of the NJO so I can't check. (Note: I haven't read the comics, so if she has a different prior to the Specter saber, it might be a different color.)
In regards to the "sith only use red lightsabers" thing, I think that is more of a way of distinguishing themselves from the Jedi, and why the Jedi don't wield red blades. That is just my opinion however.

Thanks, I'll mail that to her so she can show it to all her doubters.Wild Karrde wrote:Star by Star saber.
I actually believe it had something to do with her father. It was symbolic not only for the color but for the meaning 'cause she was a good jedi.Gustav32Vasa wrote:Perhaps the writers want to tell us something.Robert Walper wrote:I thought red blades where exclusively for Sith use only?
I don't entirely remember what novel it was in but I remember reading something like that.
I can't recall either, but I don't see Leia taking after her Dad. Even after Luke accepted Anakin's redemption, she still hated his memory. Maybe I'm wrong and she made her lightsaber (or got it, whichever) after she did forgive Vader. Been awhile since I've read any of the books. Even up until the Black Fleet Crisis, she hated his memory. I can distinctly recall her declaring that the Skywalker familiy begins with Luke, her and her children. I can't recall if she still harbored her anger by SotP or not, which is when I can first recall her with her red saber.

She is uncertain on her father. She hates Vader but all that was Anakin she put in her youngest son.Vicious wrote:I can't recall either, but I don't see Leia taking after her Dad. Heir to the Empire Trilogy:
Luke builds her a Green-bladed saber for practice
Dark Empire #1:
She gets a yellow/gold blade lightsaber from Noami Sunriders descendent on Nar Shadda (the emperor destroy's it)
By the Black Fleet trilogy, she has a red saber
in NJO, her saber is destroyed and she goes back to using the green one

She used her green sabre in the Thrawn trilogy to defeat some Noghri by tying it to a vine on Kashyyk. I don't recall if she lost it then, probably not.

Vima Sunrider was Nomi's daughter, and has been dead for about four thousand years. Vima Da Boda was six generations down from Nomi Sunrider (Nomi's great x4 granddaughter.)Vicious wrote:Ok, thanks. Also, the lightsabre Vima Da Boda gave to Leia was about 10K years old.
I believe in a sign of Zeta.
