The embodiment of Palpatine's plans for extra-galactic conquest, the Imperium would have been as powerful as a Death Star, but much more mobile. Equipped with a small fleet of capital ships, thousands of fighters, and innumerable support craft, the Imperium would have had virtually unlimited range since it would also have carried several World Devastators to produce needed supplies. With this ship, the immortal Palpatine would have spread the Empire across the universe. Rumors suggest that the crew would also have been "immortal" as well, thanks to cloning equipment that would have been onboard. Thankfully, Palpatine was not as immortal as he had hoped, and the ship never progressed beyond initial planning before his final death. While some die-hard Imperials wanted to try and actually build it to use against the New Republic, saner heads prevailed and the Imperium remained only a terrible dream.
Sort of reminds me of this one ship design from Macross whose designation escapes me at the moment. The design could have used a bit of work (those barbs at the front annoy me somewhat) but it would have been awesome to see in actual use.
This has been another blunder by you friendly local idiot.
She has nice lines, I don't deny. But the whole size and scale and capability is total fan-wank.

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red
Stupid name. Aside from that it isn't too bad. Engines are a little small for a ship that size, an the overall shape is a bit off, but eh. You could make simiilar complaints about the Death Star.

That thing is sacrilege. It takes all aspects I like about imperial ships and warps them into some fanwankish nightmare of biblical proportion.
It would be a hell of a sight though.

The very fact that it's as powerful as the Death Star, while being less than 1/1000th of its size, and possessing a bunch of other goodies drawn from all over the EU, makes this wank tech. The DS is as powerful as it is because it's so huge, what's this thing's excuse? Good thing it's only a fan creation.

Gah, Mega-fanwank! I mean, 260km with an Executor-sized bay? Seriously. A 17km command ship is one thing, but this thing is bigger than the first Death Star (length vs diameter, anyways, the DS is WAY more massive).

But what about the Death Star, then? Because that's still bigger.
As I said before, the Death Star was powerful because it was ungodly huge. This thing is supposed to be equal in power to the Death Star, but is a miniscule fraction of its size and far more mobile. That's what makes it fan wank.

The Deathstar was a mobile planet-destroying battlestation and it's size is easily explained by having a huge honking turbolaser to power.
The "Ultra" is nothing but pure fanwank. A stardestroyer that can do anything and everything the Deathstar can do plus more while massing MUCH less AND having a bay large enough to house an Executer stardreadnought (why is this neccessary?) can be nothing but a horrid nightmare spawned in the pits of scifi hell.

The Tarkin was much smaller than the DS1, remember. HIMS Eclipse was also far less massive though there is some disagreement on exactly how powerful its superlaser is.
IIRC, the Dark Empire Sourcebook said that Eclipse's axial superlaser was a third as powerful as Death Star I's, which is absurdly beyond the amound of power the ship should actually be able of generating.
I also recall something about incinerating entire continents and cracking planetary crusts even in the presence of planetary shields. Or something like that...
Regarding the Tarkin, we don't know how powerful it actually was, and as Saxton suggests, the reference to it's main weapon as an "ionic eye" might imply a large-scale ion weapon.

Must have been hard for the artist to draw this while using only one hand.
Not only is this ship fanwank material, but it's pretty stupid. It'd be more efficient to use the resources required for a ship that big to build a few thousand Imperators and a few million TIEs. All the better to oppress the masses with.
[edit]I'd like to dedicate a haiku to this new Star Destroyer:

The EGTVV explains that the Eclipse's superlaser can only shatter the crust of a planet, which makes a lot more sense. It still says it's 2/3 as powerful as the DS, but given that explanation of its abilities, a good rationalization would be to just throw out those numbers as no-math BS that the EU writers pulled out of their asses.
