SWTC reference. No mention of the Mendator's range, though it is said to be nearly as large as the Executor.

I meant for Saxton. "It's canon because I wrote it! Hah!"

Well isn't everything in the ICSs canon unless counterdicted by higher source?NecronLord wrote:I meant for Saxton. "It's canon because I wrote it! Hah!"

Though I am wondering how clonetrooper armour is stupposed to survive a kiloton range laser cannon blast in close proximity.

Aside from the fact that he is the author whose name is on the front, and thus the one responsible, the lack of cruisers and battleships in the canon has long been a gripe he's expressed on his page. I would indeed attribute the larger vessels mentioned in 2ICS to him.VT-16 wrote:Saxton doesn´t write every single thing even in the books where he´s listed as author. There´s always a team of people and compromises to be made.
Interesting. You take the above as critism of Dr Saxton? I think he does rather well with a horrendously inconsistant and unrealistic body of material. Are you either unable to comprehend, or just plain argumentative? I don't dispute the numbers. I never have, and have used them in debate many times. I dispute the ludicrous inconsistancy of the Visual Effects of Star Wars, for example, ten terajoule blaster cannons raising little blasts of sand. The real effects of ten terajoules being dumped into sand would be massive vapourisation. And this whole "not liking numbers he might have found out" is Dark Star behaviour. Please spare this board that kind of fucktardery.
The vapourisation and fusion of silicon added together is if I recall correctly, around 13.23 MJ/kg for chrissakes. Several tons of sand should have been vapourised each time a geonosian shot hit it, were the VisFX guys doing their job.

Fine. But I wouldn´t be surprised if he simply named ships that were already seen in canon, many of which are larger than the common ISD. But I do believe he mentioned even the books he´s credited as the author of, as a team-effort.NecronLord wrote:Aside from the fact that he is the author whose name is on the front, and thus the one responsible, the lack of cruisers and battleships in the canon has long been a gripe he's expressed on his page. It just looked like you were taking potshots at him for coming up with values and figures that seem strange, based on what is seen in canonical battles. Sorry if that wasn´t the case.Interesting. Hehe, that is true.I dispute the ludicrous inconsistancy of the Visual Effects of Star Wars, for example, ten terajoule blaster cannons raising little blasts of sand. The real effects of ten terajoules being dumped into sand would be massive vapourisation.

Both of them are meant to maintain verisimiltude when describing the technical effects of the weapons of a civilisation that can build the Death Star. The Lucasfilm VisFX people regularly fail in doing so.

I think a good explanation for not seeing full power effects is ammo/power storage. We know the SPHA-T is capable of TL level firepower, but Saxton mentions the limitations on it are the power storage. When either side needed to take out "heavy" targets they could. Vapourizing a column of their troops while taking out yours isn't exactly tactically sound. The LAATs used sweeping beams for precision area damage not rockets when in close range to friendlies, that should tell you something.

Well, the thing is, they were firing on the enemy persuing their Lord. Not a time to start dialing down the power to 0.01%.

Very well. You will be the first.
VADER removes his hood and ignites his saber.

You're Anakin Skywalker!
VADER digs his saber into the chest of SAN HILL.

For the next spoilers BE WARNED these concern the end of the duel and Anakin's firey fate.
EPISODE III TERNIAN REPORT: The Duel :: Part I
March 12 2005
Part I of II
Obi-Wan dives into a forward roll that ends up with him on the rim of a low cliff, just above the soft black sand of a lava riverbank.
Anakin snarls at Obi-Wan, realising he has been tricked. He leaps off his droid at Obi-Wan's back but is half a second too slow.
Obi-Wan whirls to parry Anakin, but his saber doesn't meet Anakin's blade. Instead, he slices off Anakin's leg at the knee. Then he slices of the other leg at the knee. And while Anakin is still in the air, Obi-Wan uses his blade to slice off Anakin's left arm above the elbow. He steps back as Anakin falls.
Anakin drops his lightsaber, clawing at the edge of the cliff with his mechanical hand, but his grip becomes too powerful for the lava bank and the edge crumbles, and he slides down onto the black sand.
His severed legs and his severed arm rolls into the lava below him and immediately burns.
Anakin claws at the soft black sand, but his struggling only makes him slip farther. The sand itself is hot; digging his mechanical arm into it burns off his glove, and his robes begin to smolder.
Obi-Wan picks up Anakin's lightsaber. He lifts his own as well and weighs them in his hands. Anakin had based his design upon Obi-Wan's and thus they appear very similar.
I think it's a touch too much of Anakin getting punked, but will have to see. A lucky strike is better than a goofy fall. One thing I would like to see confirmed, is Nick Gillard says Anakin is better but is weak on a slope, I always thought that would be part of his downfall, not an oops sabre de-legging.

I like those lines, they're pure Vader:
"We would be honoured if you would join us."
"Perhaps you think you're being treated ... unfairly?"
"I find your lack of faith disturbing ..."
"Don't fail me again ... Admiral" (ie. remember what happened to Ozzel)
The sarcasm and veiled threats ... ahhh, gives me the willies.
As for the lightsabre fight account- erm, Anakin's lightsabre looks nothing like Obi-Wan's and never did.

Didn't he loose his last one in AotC? If so, he could have built one in RotS, and another before ANH.Vympel wrote:As for the lightsabre fight account- erm, Anakin's lightsabre looks nothing like Obi-Wan's and never did.
