Only two months before Revenge of the Sith hits theatres. There are two things we can count on, based on what happened before the last two prequels came out:
1) Some web wanker will claim to have seen a "rough cut" of the movie or that he was given a sneak preview in a hotel room -and will review a movie they haven't seen. Of course the story will be bullshit and the "preview" consisted of thumbing through copies of the books that had already shipped to the bookstores, and web spoilers. Yes Harry Knowles, this means you!
2) Salon will conduct a mendacious hatchetjob on George Lucas. This is becoming a tradition for them. First Charles Taylor accused him of ruining movies and wished Star Wars had never been made. David Brin (see Mike Wong's deconstruction of Brin's bullshit on this site) all but called Lucas a fascist. Then Lucas was called a plagiarist, a virgin and a racist. This time, I think they'll blame the Iraq war on him -or maybe the Guckert scandal.
My questions:
1) How long before Harry Knowles claims he's seen the "rough cut"?
2) How long before Salon flings horseshit at Lucas?
and (see poll)...
How long before?

Yep. They've issued a fatwah against Lucas for some reason. David Brin's piece always seemed like a response to an article in Liberty from 1997 that more or less said that SW rules over ST and that every last Trekkie knows it. Brin is an embittered Trekkie and the rest of Salon's hacks are repeating bullshit they've heard elsewhere. No original thoughts there.2000AD wrote:Is Salon the one that brings up the racist allegations (JarJar in TPM, the clones in AoTC)?
On David Brin's article that Wong responds to, there's another article about TPM. I haven't read any of the racist charges on there (David Brin sidesteps talking about Jar Jar in that one), but those two alone speak volumes.
In general Salon seems to be pretty elitest (perhaps snobbish is the proper term?), on this and other topics.

In the case of New Line, Harry probably is getting sneaks, since AICN is practically a subsidiary of New Line. The Facer showed how every movie released by New Line was given glowing reviews at AICN, except one and spoofed Harry's bullshit story about seeing AOTC in a hotel room.Assassin X wrote:Im sure Harry's already writing his reiview.

AICN was kissing Tarantino's cock for months for even a crumb about Kill Bill when it was shooting, so the Facer wrote about how he had been invited to China to the set and was given a look at the rough cut -an obvious parody of Harry Knowles' AOTC tall tale. Well because AICN are not only brownnosers and hucksters -they're stupid brownnosers and hucksters, Harry went 100% apeshit and, not realizing he was being ridiculed- started spamming the websites that ran The Facer's review. He demanded "proof" that The Facer saw the movie! I wish I could find the review because it was hilarious. I did find this excerpt from Cinescape:
The Facer wrote:January 17, 2003... The mysterious and masked individual known as "The Facer" has landed a big exclusive, namely the first review of an early cut of Kill Bill. The Facer gave the work-in-progress a negative review, saying that he disliked the performance of the film's star, Uma Thurman, and felt that the film was a jumble of action sequences. Ultimately he was left disappointed with the movie and even in this early stage of post-production, feels that the completed film will not be well received by critics.
"If you want to see a better movie built around the concept of a string of fight scenes held loosely together by a plot, go rent The Warriors," writes TheFacer. "If you want to see a better movie built on the tired old plot device of someone battling bad guys who killed their family, go rent Mad Max. And if you want to see a better Kung Fu movie, rent an old Chinese one. Little smarmy white guys like Tarantino aren't the best ambassadors of Asian culture, despite what fat geeks at comic conventions tell him."
