If Thrawn were on film...
I was thinking about this today: what actor would you cast to play Grand Admiral Thrawn if he were ever to appear on film? I have my own ideas but I would like to see what people around here think.

Alan Rickman? Nah, that's a joke.
Jeremy Irons? He's been known to play megalomaniacs before:
"My name is Profion... fear me. Time to die, Ridley! *gets eaten by a Gold Dragon*"
"We Morlocks are totally badass. You skin... looks delicious. You should come over... for dinner."
(The Morlocks were cannibals, right?)

Maybe Alan Rickman.

With his performance as Bester, yeah I could see it. Though, I worry about the temptation for anyone writing for him to make a cheap Trek reference, 'Imperial Wessels' or something like that JMS managed to avoid any blatant Chekov references though....Enola Straight wrote:Walter Koenig.
Chekov on Star Trek, Bester on Babylon 5, why not make it a trifecta?
(btw, that's the first time I ever used the word trifecta... )

That guy does bear a resemblemce to the mental image of Thrawn I have...Galvatron wrote:My choice: Daniel Day-Lewis

I don't want Thrawn to be portrayed as a megalomaniac, but calm and cool like he was in the novels.
I never liked Jeremy Irons as a choice. His voice is too distinctive and distracting.
Wow, Galvatron...where's that picture of Mr. Day-Lewis from? It's just about a perfect facial structure for Thrawn IMO, and good point about the demeanor the part would require.
My personal choice was Jeremy Irons because like Daniel Day-Lewis he also has this 'look' that I feel is appropriate for the part, not to mention his versatility as an actor and the fact that I feel his voice would be perfect (it leaves an impression on a person, a quality I feel our good Grand Admiral would also possess). Additionally, I also felt he was about the right age to have interacted with the original cast had they continued on to an episode 7, 8, and 9 (he's right around Harrison Ford's age, actually).

He's also British, a very good actor, and he's not instantly recognizable by everyone. More pics for my case...Robert Walper wrote:That guy does bear a resemblemce to the mental image of Thrawn I have...Galvatron wrote:My choice: Daniel Day-Lewis

The thing about Thrawn is he was never a megalomaniac. He was always calm and collected.

Jason Issacs, the actor who played Tavingto in The Patriot.

I shouldn't say I never liked Irons for the part. I used to like him (despite his voice), but he lost a lot of credibility with me after being in genre bombs like The Time Machine and D&D.
I'd rather see an actor cast for the part who isn't a sci-fi actor and can impart his own credibility to the entire movie, not just the role. It's all about gravitas.
That's what Sir Alec Guinness did for ANH, essentially "classing up the joint" as a result.
