I choose the Empire because it's a chance to serve in a military with powerful state of the art equipment, with properly disciplined personel and a clearly defined chain of command.
As long as I don't screw up in a spectacular manner, I'll be fine. Chances are in an army of that size that low level NCO's are rarely noticed. From what I've seen everyone who was executed was an officer.

It appears I have to remind you that the Empire actually turns into the Imperial Remnant, which although small was at least competent. It seemed to take the good from the empire and leave off the bad.
The New Republic is what the RA turned into.
Incorrect. Well over 99% of the million systems of the Galactic Empire joined the New Republic of the population's free will. Once the Imperial military fell apart, they flocked to the New Republic. Thus, the people, ships, places and misc items that made up the Empire turned into the New Republic. It's like the Russian Imperial State becoming the USSR. Sure, not the same leaders, but a governmental change.
False analogy its like saying China became Taiwan. In that Taiwan claims or used to claim to be the Republic of China. Taiwan is correct in the sense that they're Chinese with some sort of Republican form of government, but they're not China proper.

I chose the Empire because New Republic or Imperial Remnant the Empire becomes good, while the TOS Federation becomes evil commie TNG Feds. Also, the NR becomes the GFFA which finally seems to have its act together and seems to be on the path to a strong central government similar to the U.S. circa 1790-1800.

It's actually closer to the Russian Revolution. A monarch was overthrown by a relatively small group of dissidents and replaced with a different governmental system. If you lived in the Russian Empire, you eneded up in the USSR. If you lived in the Galactic empire, you ended up in the New Republic. The vast majority of what was the GE ends up as part of the NR.

On the whole 'evil, not evil, show examples' thing...when the opening scroll of the movie says 'evil galactic empire', why do you need even one more example? When the creator of your franchise starts the movie handing you that info in unmistakable clarity, what more proof do you need? What example from any other source could be more convincing than George Lucas himself essentially telling you 'yes, the galactic empire is indeed evil'?
