Actually i was talking about every version of the executor, I cant think of any source that does not say it holds 144 tie fighters even if one makes it 8 kilometres or 12.8 kilometres long.

Hmm and the knight hammer statement always struck me as something similar to “a massive ship of several kilometres length” when they descried the separatist flagship in one of the clone wars novels, though the thing is just more then kilometre long. They both seem to come from the perspective of a scared beholder, or glory drunk warlord.

The SSD lenght is one big mess up anyway and weg is not even to blame for it, they were told it is 8km long and most authors just went from that, newer sources claim its 12,8 km long, thus we should assume that all the ssd in the various sources were in fact 12,8 km long models, as they were intended to be by the authors.

17.6 km, actually.

I would rather go by the book, then by hand-eye measurement ;)
the measurements are quit right I agree with that, but figuring out ship size by measuring has such a treki feeling to it, because you really don’t have a clue how big ships are supposed to be in trek.

I mean if you take measuring for everything in star wars, the royal starship in ep 1 ends up being something like 20 meters long in the tatooine scene ^^

They are not hand-eye measurements. Scaling is repeatable and observable. There is literally no way from the canon that the Executor can be less than 11 times the length of an Imperial Star Destroyer.

I agree with you abobut scaling, but if the ship was ment to be 17.6 km long, they would have writen it.

For me it always seems similar to saying that storm trooper armor is made out plastic because that’s what it seems to be made from in the movies, or that the comic aayla secura can’t be the same one as the one in the movie because her lekkus don’t have the same propertinaly length to her body as in the movie, or that the royal star ship is no larger than ~20 meters.

It’s just my personal interpretation of these errors, the on screen executor really seems to be 17.6km in proportion to other things in the movie, but I just prefer to go by the book length.

The Venator none the less has a very big fighter capacity, we agree on that, don’t we? ^^

Unless the ISD is now less the 1.6 KM they scaled it to 17.6 K by saying more then hundred times as massive and almost 12 times as long.

And as said before...canon is at 17.6 KM. One can go "How accurate?". Given that it's consistent time after time, it's more clear case of observational evidence then a supposed author going "Maybe 12.8, maybe 8 KM...we'll see what the crystal ball has to say about this!"

How does the Death Star appear in Episode III?

Imagine a skeletal body with the two poles complete. You can see the main canon/reactor shaft reaching to the core, and the main chamber that Lando Calrissian destroys in RotJ.

The Death Star is surrounded by about fifteen craft that resemble Trade Federation core ships, small freighters that are barely visible and Star Destroyers.

The Death Star hovers above a cloudy planet.
A cloudy planet ... which we can assume to be Despayre?

lets hope so ;) or they would have to think something up

PS: 11 times as long as an isd would be 17,6. almost 12 times as long implies something closer to 19,2 so Saxon does not seem all so sure what he is trying to get at himself. Oh, well, lets just hope they sort it out in the future.

So... that much is done by the end of Episode III... yet it'll take 20 more years to finish? :?

Unless anything is said in-movie to the contrary, I´ll take this as a jump in time.

Read this, particularly this quote:
The exquisitely-illustrated book based on an exhibition of the Lucasfilm Archives, From STAR WARS to Indiana Jones is in fairly good agreement with the calculated limits. Two pages are devoted to the Executor. On p.44 it says, in part:

... Executor, the flagship of Darth Vader, was conceived as eleven times the size of the original Star Destroyer of Star Wars. (For reference, the conning tower that rises from the Executor was supposed to be as big as the original Destroyer's conning tower.)

Looks like we're going to have to deal with the "with the Senate still around they could not funnel as much money and resources as quickly into the Death Star."

Yes, it says the Executor has over 5000 HTLs.

I'd assume the main difference is simply greater Hyperdrive ranges, as early model Mandators had sector range hyperdrives. THough they probably did undergo upgrades in shielding and firepower for all out war as well.

5000 HTLs and Ion cannon. Most of them are probably HTLs though. . .

Just to nitpick, the ITW doesn't make reference to whether or not they are MTLs or HTLs in the 5,000 figure.

No you can't. Not if this one is specified to be DSI, which it is.

Not to mention something like that would totally screw with continuity.

This is my theory, something goes wrong on DS we see being build in ROTS and Tarkin is tasked to find out what it was and how repair it. This will to Maw installation (and every thing in it) and to final DS1 which we see in ANH.
I may be an idiot, but I'm a tolerated idiot

Doubtful, but even then you're still left with the ANH novel quote, which you CAN'T ignore (seeing as how it comes from Tarkin himself and all.)

It seems that at least according to a scanned page from the RotS graphic novel, Sideous does have hair.

This may seem inconsequential to most people, but some reason It's a big deal to me...
