The Shrike vs. pokeWorld

Post by fgalkin »

The Lord of Pain comes to the land of puke-em-on and starts killing the rodents. Can the little critters fight back, or do they get impaled on the Tree of Thorns?

Have a very nice day.

A TREE? I have no idea what the Shrike is, but electricty and fire can get rid of that easy enough...

It's not Shrikes, it's the Shrike. There is only one Shrike. Basically a 3 meter tall guy that was created by the UI (Ultimate Intelligence) contolls time, and basically is one bad-ass son of a bitch. He os covered completely by black chromed thorns/spikes/you name it. In the books, he took care of thousands of troops stationed on a planet (Hyperionverse troops, mind you). Potentially he could wipe out the Human race or any other race short of Culture level for that matter.

As for the Tree of Thorns, here's a quote from the book:
The tree was larger than the valley, taller than the mountains the pilgrims had crossed; its upper branches seemed to reach into space. The tree was steel and chrome, and its branches were thorns and nettles. Human beings struggled and wriggled on those thorns, thousands and tens of thousands....They were bodies not souls or other abstracts, and they obviously had been suffering the agoinies of the pain-wracked living.
The Fall of Hyperion, p.172.

Have a very nice day.

Not mechanical. Alive (as in living)

And, 1) The shrike is capable of turning a human into a series of shreds of flesh scattered around a large area in a few seconds.

2) he has a nasty habit of appearing right behind the victim. the critter would not be able to do anything.

3)has another nasty habit of jumping backwards in time to a point just befor the attack.

Pukes are dead.

have a very nice day.

Actually, I don't think that all of the powers of the pokeys on the planet will be sufficient to even bother the Shrike. I mean he was hit by a FORCE assault rifle beam which TURNED THE SAND UNDER HIM INTO GLASS and wasn't hurt.

Well, I dunno what to say.....could he be melted? It seems unlikely. But then, there are god only knows how many pokemon. Who could say for sure?

The Shrike was creatied by the Ultimate intelligence. He is almost invincible. And I mean invincible. It would probably take something along Planet killing power to hurt him, but I'm not sure about this. We do know that he is uber, and would simply chop up all the pokemon before they can even blink (not an exageration).

Have a very nice day.

Let's not forget the Shrike's ability to pause time and to time-travel.

The creator of Pokemon could make an unholy alliance with Akira Toriyama, and bring in the overpowered fuckwits from DBZ in an attempt to save his ass. Personally, I'd still be rooting for the Shrike

I love anime.
DBZ is not anime, it is uncreative drivel. It is incredibly repetitive and idiotic macho posturing. It is the most obnoxious portrayal of the supposedly inevitable victory of brute strength over intelligence, creativity, skill, and common sense that I have ever encountered. Anyone with a working brain and a tenth of the energy being thrown around by the Down's Syndrome Rejects that comprise the main cast could rip them all apart, but the writer makes it so that only overwhelming power works, no matter how contrived he must make the situation.
BTW, anyone who wants to argue the supposed intelligence of the cast with me can do so, I won't be online for the next few days, but I look forward to your unjustifiable assumptions and inability to see the truth when it is used to bludgeon you repeatedly.

No, all of us.

And consequences: the only one on DBZ with any sort of intelligence are Gohan and Piccolo. And it is technically anime. But only technically. Otherwise, it can be ocnsidered crap. Although, I must say I do enjoy people beating the shit out of each other...

Gohan lost his claim to intelligence when he failed to train effectively for at least 6 years, and then let himself get absorbed by the same attack that did for Gotenks. Can't really argue about Piccolo's actions during the series, just some of the things he didn't do.
Personally, I would have said that the only person with a clue was Future Trunks, but that's because I'm a fan of anyone whose first instinct is to obliterate the enemy as quickly as possible.
I like people beating the shit out of each other too, but the stupidity I have seen recently on Cartoon Network just kicked me over the rage threshold on DBZ.
