A rather unexpected candidate from that link 2000AD posted... Leonard Nimoy. I think he could do it... he's used to prosthetics, and blue makeup would be small beans to him compared to the two hours(IIRC in TOS) that he used to have to go through with his Spock ears. He's a very collected, calm individual, and while his Spock would be standing fresh in most people's minds, I think he could seriously do Thrawn very well.
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

Wow... that is a fantastic picture of Irons... creepy how much he does resemble Thrawn.

I believe it would be either Daniel Day-Lewis or Jeremy Irons; though Iron's voice doesn't seem low enough for what I pictured Thrawn's voice to be.

Does voice have to the actor who's the body (after all Darth Maul had different actors for his body and voice.)

Perfect choice! For those who insist on a Limey, why not Timothy Dalton? With Edward Hardwicke as Pellaeon? Hardwicke played Watson to Jermey Brett's Sherlock Holmes. Which is fitting since Thrawn and Pellaeon always seemed based on Holmes and Watson.

I think Pierce Brosnan would do the job nicely.

[edit]I agree with Elfdart about Tim Dalton

As much as I love Bale as an actor he's just too young for the role. I always imagined Thrawn to be an older gentlemen, in his 50's or so.

Hm, how about Andreas Katsulas? He certainly has the presence of voice.

But don't forget Stravo Thrawn is an alien, Chiss could simply age differently than humans. I think Bale could work nicely.

Bertie Wooster wrote:Christopher Walken. His non-British accent would be consistent with Thrawn's foreign background.
I've always said Walken for the role. After seeing his part in Privateer 2, and reading the Heir Trilogy right afterwards, I've always connected Walken with that role. The only problem I can see is that he tries to always fit a dance into every role, and I don't think that'd work with Thrawn (unless some sort of flashback to him at some early Imperial function...?). He actually was the #2 selection for Han Solo...if Harrison Ford had turned down the role, Walken would've been Solo.

Best quote ever from Walken: "I don't need to be made to look evil. I can do that on my own."

I vote for Andreas Katsulas. Voice, age, and presence. Bale is too young, though the guy from The Patriot could work.

A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? A country isn't a rock. It's not an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult! - Chief Judge Haywood
