This topic came up earlier, and it surprises me that most people are not aware of this. Until 1978, the official Mormon policy was that skin colour denotes closeness to God. In other words, whites are supposedly closest to God. They changed their minds in the midst of a federal government crackdown on racist organizations claiming tax-exempt status (which they claim had nothing to do with their change of heart ).
Anyway, this quote from one of their "modern-day disciples" and head honchos Spencer W. Kimball may help shed some light on the evils of Mormonism:
Spencer W. Kimball wrote:"I saw a striking contrast in the progress of the Indian people today as against that of only fifteen years ago. Truly the scales of darkness are falling from their eyes, and they are fast becoming a white and delightsome people....
The day of the Lamanites is nigh. For years they have been growing delightsome, and they are now becoming white and delightsome, as they were promised. In this picture of the twenty Lamanite missionaries, fifteen of the twenty were as light as Anglos;...The children in the home placement program in Utah are often lighter than their brothers and sisters in the hogans on the reservation.
At one meeting a father and mother and their sixteen-year-old daughter were present, the little member girl...was several shades lighter than her parents...There was the doctor in a Utah city who for two years had had an Indian boy in his home who stated that he was some shades lighter than the younger brother just coming into the program from the reservation. These young members of the Church are changing to whiteness and to delightsomeness. One white elder jokingly said that he and his companion were donating blood regularly to the hospital in the hope that the process might be accelerated.
The day of the Lamanites has come....today the dark clouds are dissipating."
From "Improvement Era", December 1960, p922-923.
This is some pretty disturbing shit, folks. And these people are now telling us to follow their prophets, because they get their shit from God's mouth.

One of my best friends in high school was Mormon. I ain't suprised one bit.Mesa, AZ, where Alyrium and I reside, is a Mormon stronghold. One whacked cult, them golden tablet folk.
Scientology ... don't they believe that some evil alien overlord by the name of Xenu was having an overpopulation problem and so he packed everyone off to Earth in space-faring Douglas DC-4s (go figure ...), put them next to volcanos and blew them up with thermonuclear weapons, resulting in all these negative spirits or something that are infecting us humans and robbing us of our potential?
Of course- Scientology needs our money to help save us from this huge problem. Only L Ron Hubbard can defeat XENU.
Not to say I'm defending racist views (I consider racists to be at least as bad as fundies), but the date of that quote is 1960. That was the early portion of the era of the Civil Rights movement. To blast the Mormon church of today for what was said 42 years ago would be like saying the Alabama police are still going out and beating black people for marching in the streets and arresting blacks who sit at the front of the bus. While it is most certainly not something I would want to be associated with, there is no evidence provided that that belief is still common within the Mormon community.
I do agree that it is a disgusting view.

But Alabama police are still racists, but they must be much more quiet about it, they're racism isn't tolerated as much as it used too be pubicly anyway.

The point is not that they've stopped, but why they stopped. They stopped because of the threat of government taxation, not because they understand what was wrong with what they did.

Every single member of the Mormon "Quorum of 12" is white.
Do you think this is coincidence? Are they sincere? Or are they merely paying lip service to racial equality in order to avoid the taxman? I don't know about the rank and file, but I have serious trouble believing that the hierarchy has changed its ways, especially since they still revere this Kimball asshole and quote his "teachings".

The problem in this comunity is the elitism and racism is just a small branch of it. The church is dominating here, so the fucknuts in it can sit back and enjoy the company of people who think exactly like they do. Opposistion is little and squashed when encountered.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red
I don't doubt for moment they dropped the instituional racism because it would have hurt them in the povket book. It doesn't suprise me in the least, Moromons are scumballs. They're the worst of a bad lot as far as racist religions are concerned.

Well lets see, about a hundred years ago about the same time the goverment said that they would force Utah to stop poligimy, the Lord called down on his prophets and said "Um, I think you should stop poligimy." Now that was an odd bit of timing, eh?

Yeah, course they'd probably use it to claim the US government is divinely inspired or some shit like that.

I am sure they are working on it this very moment.

Id never seen the racist views of the Mormons before. When I was a kid one of my friends was Mormon and they were Philipino. Either way, Mormons are really fucked up in the head.
Mormons themselves are usually not very fucked up - I've met quite a few Mormons who are perfectly reasonable people, including my debate teacher, who just so happens to be a Mormon bishop (and yes, he is good at his job). I'm not defending the mormon chruch here, hell they're almost as bad as the Catholic church, just pointing out that contrary to popular belief on this board, not all Mormons are the fundamentalists everyone makes them out to be.
As you were...
data_link has resigned from the board after proving himself to be a relentless strawman-using asshole in this thread and being too much of a pussy to deal with the inevitable flames. Buh-bye.

Very true, that. As I stated, one of my BEST friends in high school was Mormon. His indoctrination wouldn't normally come out in everyday conversation, but sometimes......In my experience, Mormons are a bit secretive when it comes to their beliefs, to put it mildly. Especially when it comes to church rituals.
