Best games for GameCube
My family has a GameCube. We have two games for it, Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and a pretty crappy Lord of the Rings game. I'm now very bored with Zelda, since it's not a challenge anymore. What games would you recommend?
I'm particularly looking for good RPGs, but any type of game will do.

Plenty of good GC games...sketerpot wrote:My family has a GameCube. We have two games for it, Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and a pretty crappy Lord of the Rings game. I'm now very bored with Zelda, since it's not a challenge anymore. What games would you recommend?

Okay...
Super Smash Bros Melee. Best. Multiplayer. Game. Ever.
Resident Evil 4 if you like that kind of game (me, blood makes me uneasy...)
Spider-Man 2. Utterly rocks.
Rogue Squadron 2 (Rogue Leader) and 3. 2 is a lot harder than 3, but 3 has the entire Rogue Squadron 2 as a co-op mode. Great for the family.
Metroid Prime 1 and/or 2. Very fun.
I personally liked Super Mario Sunshine. If you can look past the childish storyline, the gameplay is quite fun. And unlike most people think, it's NOT about cleaning things up, it's about blasting the bosses that are making a mess and collecting Sprites (instead of Stars). Very fun. And very cheap at this point. Reminiscent of Mario 64, though the gameplay is a bit different with the hose-thingy.
If you have two GBA's in the house anywhere, Zelda: Four Swords is extremely fun for multiplayer. However, to have more than one player (single player can be done with a controller), each player needs a GBA.
I recently picked up Viewtiful Joe 2, and I have to say, I like it so far. 9.0 on IGN, too.
I don't have it, but I've heard raving reviews of Animal Crossing.
StarFox Assault has GREAT multiplayer games, but the single player is:
A) Too short.
B) Has a contrived and boring storyline.
C) Every level in the landmaster sucks, and every level on foot is too easy. Since there is only 10 levels, that means only a couple leves are actually fun.
Mario Kart: Double Dash is great for multiplayer, a friend of mine has it. Not sure on single player but he played the heck out of it, so it should be fun.
For anything I might be forgetting, look through this.

And do not forget the new Zelda game

We only have one controller.Praxis wrote:Super Smash Bros Melee. Best. Multiplayer. Game. Ever.
One of my neighbors has that, so we sometimes get to play it. It's pretty good, but I tend toward games with less gloom and blood.Resident Evil 4 if you like that kind of game (me, blood makes me uneasy...)

A childish storyline doesn't bother me at all. I play Tetris Attack for the SNES, so it had better not. And the phrase "very cheap" makes it sound very alluring.I personally liked Super Mario Sunshine. If you can look past the childish storyline, the gameplay is quite fun. I'm drooling with anticipation. The trailer was beautiful. And do not forget the new Zelda game

It's fine for single player too. And it'll MAKE you get a second controller once you realize how fun it issketerpot wrote:We only have one controller.Praxis wrote:Super Smash Bros Melee. Best. Multiplayer. Game. Ever.
I recommend WaveBird...muwahaha.
It was one of the first games to come out for GC, it's like $10 nowadays used at GameStop, $20 new at Amazon.com or Walmart as reveals a quick Googling.A childish storyline doesn't bother me at all. Ignoring the games others have already mentioned: Tales of Symphonia. It combines classic console RPG with Team Fighting games (like Super Smash Bros. Melee).
You have your standard single character exploration, and when you go into combat, you and up to three team mates - either human or CPU controlled - fight the enemy team with a cross of RPG stats (HP, attack, defense, etc) and fighting game button mashing.
EDIT: See sig!

Fuck yes. You haven't truly had fun in that game, until you've climbed to the very top of the highest building in NYC and power jumped off. I remember doing that once and swinging away on a webline at the last minute.observer_20000 wrote:Spider-Man 2 is pretty cool as well..

Again I recommend Mario Kart, brilliant party fun.

If you want a good RPG for the GameCube, I HIGHLY recommend Skies of Arcadia: Legends.
Beyond Good & Evil is an excellent action/adventure type game.
Lord of the Rings: The Third Age is a great LOTR RPG.
Paper Mario 2 is a fun RPG, if a bit on the kiddie side.
Tales of Symphonia and X-Men Legends are both decent RPGs.
EDIT: Oh yeah, if you liked Super Mario 64 but think it's just not quite irritating enough, try Super Mario Sunshine.

If you don't mind "kiddie" games, I would recommend Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. I enjoyed it muchly Although the battles can get a bit repetitive after a while (a very long while, that is), the dialogue and story is great and very funny!

Aside from the ones already mentioned, I recommend Prince of Persia.

Oh shit, really? I was sure I'd played BO3 on GC... everyone DID say it wasn't out yet. Oooer. Musta been the PS2 version? I thought I'd played two, and I don't own an Xbox... my mistake.Praxis wrote: Burnout 3 is the one game that I want so bad I'm actually considering buying a PS2 JUST to play it.
He was asking for GC games, not PS2 or XBox, so why did you post it?
