Is it true that Nintendo is already considering dropping the system? That would be terrible, I realy think it's a worthwhile system. Apparently the developers just aren't biting. Anyone know what's up with that?
No, it's not true. There are TONS of games in development.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get another GameBoy when the DS drops to $100 though.

Right now Nintendo is managing two systems- GBA SP (low end) and DS (high end). When the new GB comes, the DS will be low end and new GB high end. Nintendo wasn't lying when they called the DS the "third pillar".

I'd fully expect Nintendo to have the GB and DS lines running side by side, with DS games using touch screen (say, FPS games) and other new innovative features while the GB line stays classic (better graphics and one screen, like the PSP).

And I really would not be surprised if Nintendo releases a new portable that plays GameCube games. They hinted they may do this way back in 2000, when they mentioned that the minidisks means it could be used in a portable someday.

Sorry to get back late on some of the replies, but yes I was talking about a car adaptor that plugs into a cigarette lighter (it already comes with an AC adaptor). Also bought a USB cable with software for moving pictures, music, and home movies to the device. It even interfaces to the PS2, though I've yet to see the value in that. I've been told by some geeks in the know that you can already download entire games for the PSP from the internet onto your device (including hacked games that were never intended for the PSP), but I'm still looking into that. So far the thing managed to dominate much of my Easter weekend, and my wife has been showing off the thing to her co-workers.

One more question and then I'll let this thread die, I promise. (probably) Where is the development info for AOE DS? All I've seen is GameSpot and they've got squat.

But here is the direct link:

It's being developed by Majesco. Screenshots are included. Those screenshots and the text in that page are ALL the info that has been released on it.

I wasn't intending to buy the thing, but then I've always been a sucker for the newest toy.
why woudl you need a dc adapter??

Mind you we have the full set of dvds from where lucas finished all 9 episodes of Starwars, but we can't find a zero region DVD player that will play alternate reality formats...

PSP

Post by Nick Lancaster »

Bought a PSP on Thursday (but didn't have to wait in the midnight line) - still, I was among the last three people to get a PSP on that first day. The store wasn't sure if they were getting more units. (Which puzzles me somewhat; this is the Sony PlayStation Store at the Sony Metreon, and it doesn't have enough units to sell?)

The unit is lightweight, but durable. I don't think you have to worry about scratching the screen unless you're used to tossing your stuff into your backpack with your car keys. No sticky controls, no dead pixels.

Downside: no games are included. It does come with SpiderMan 2 on UMD, but that's hardly an incentive to buy. Battery life is listed as 3-6 hours for game play (w/out using WiFi), and this seems to be a realistic estimate.

Plenty of room for Sony or third parties to create carrying cases (the soft case is basically a sleeve for the PSP, without additional pockets or UMD storage capability) and possibly a stand, so you can park the unit at a decent viewing angle if you're watching a movie.

I have purchased the following games:

Ridge Racer - excellent graphics, crisp resolution.

Untold Legends - average dungeon crawl, nothing to write home about.

Metal Gear Acid - Action game, but it's turn based and has fucking long-winded cutscenes that ramble on and on and on and on. (Launching the game sends you immediately into one such scene, and since it's using the game interface, you see the game playing itself and wonder what you're doing wrong.)

I'd love to see a good FPS/Fighting game.
