Actually, they taught us during Teacher's Training that many people feel depressed precisely BECAUSE they have all of those luxories and benefits, but STILL feel unhappy, sometimes. Of course, this leads to a downward spiral because of unrealistic goals and expectations.Darth Wong wrote:I think it's rather unfortunate that there are so many people in the developed world who enjoy the luxuries of first-world life, who are healthy and who have a whole lifetime ahead of them, but who knock themselves down and get depressed in spite of it all. It seems so pointless. It seems likely that a good portion of the internet-population in general has low self-esteem, and that most of the people who bring up their personal problems (out of the ones here) will suffer from a low self-esteem. I think they might just be the ones you tend to notice, on the board.
What are YOU prejudice against?(honest answers please)

People who come up to me, and ask me if said posted rule applies to them as well as everybody else. And then try to use the "Coustomer is always Right." reguardless of Law etc. (Particularly the sign that says I have to "Card" Everyone reguardless of age, and personally only card those that don't appear to be in their mid thirties. (I have yet to fail an ATF sting operation, and I have been Bartending during the winter for 5 years now. While many of my coworkers have been stung.)

That's true for normal depression, but clinical depression is caused by chemical imbalances in the brain that have nothing to do with real, genuine feelings and emotions.Darth Wong wrote:I think it's rather unfortunate that there are so many people in the developed world who enjoy the luxuries of first-world life, who are healthy and who have a whole lifetime ahead of them, but who knock themselves down and get depressed in spite of it all. I know Bi-polar imballences run in my family. I get depressed everytime the sunlight quotiant dips below a certain amount, I act manic during the full moon, and get depressed during the new moon.Arthur_Tuxedo wrote:That's true for normal depression, but clinical depression is caused by chemical imbalances in the brain that have nothing to do with real, genuine feelings and emotions.Darth Wong wrote:I think it's rather unfortunate that there are so many people in the developed world who enjoy the luxuries of first-world life, who are healthy and who have a whole lifetime ahead of them, but who knock themselves down and get depressed in spite of it all.
