Worst ship design?

Post by Asst. Asst. Lt. Cmdr. Smi »

Of all the ships in sci-fi, which do you think had the worst design, either because there was some gaping blind spot that hindered it, the design was impractical, or it was innifecent?

Strike cruiser. It has a rather large gap in its turret fire in the aft underside section. Lets fighters get in real quick.

The original Galaxy class also had a rather big warp core problem, but at least this was fixed in later models and upgrades.

TIE Fighters, unreliable, no life support systems, fragile, and just a waste of pilots' lives.

And Runabouts. Those are just retarded.

The USS Enterprise-D. You LOOK at the warp core the wrong way and it tries to explode.

Agreed, although I like the way it looks the technical and tatical problems make it a bad design.

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

I don't know about you or anyone else on this board, but I think that ship is a product of hentai-ness.

Hmm. I'd have to say the myriad of positively godawful, disgusting fanboy kitbashes of TNG ships. We're not talking like a four nacelled GCS... no, we're talking some monstrosity that had like 8 or 16 nacelles, and... *shudder*

I always thought of the Minbary cruisers (not the whitestars). I am no expert but do they even have any reward or side weapons at all? It looks as though they are designed for a head to head engagement only.

The Runabout does not fit any of the thread criteria for a bad design.

He gave the ship balls in order to hide the fact that he doesn't have any.
data_link has resigned from the board after proving himself to be a relentless strawman-using asshole in this thread and being too much of a pussy to deal with the inevitable flames. Buh-bye.

It's forward guns can pretty much shoot in 270 degrees,a nd it does have rear weaponry too.

Most of the guns on both the Sharlin and the Tinashi are capable of 180 degree rotation, with the point defense guns capable of 360 degrees. This would give at least some sidefire capability, but I can't find any evidence for rearward firing. Given their (shown) ability to spin on their axis, however, this is probably not quite as much a weakness as it would seem.

The human fighter in "Enemy Mine", just too large a cockpit.

What is Battle Beyond the Stars?

That ship looks like it belongs on the show Lexx.

Buzz Lightyear's ship from his cartoon, no weapons on the stupid thing, they just eject the crew and have them duke it out with the enemy.

And of course, the E-D.

The Imperator class star destroyers, they're just stupid. And ugly. I mean why the..ack..ack..ack....

Just kidding. The fighters from the Lost in Space film were obviously designed to look "cool" only, which they don't. An obvious B-wing ripoff. And sorry, I kind of like the Star Ship Scrotum from battle beyond the stars.

I'd have to say that the Dark Fortress (if indeed that is what it was called) in Krull was the worst design I ever saw for a starship (if indeed that is what it was). The "explosion" of the thing in the end of the movie looked like a series of 2x4's ascending into the sky...
