Jeeze, any one want to point out their house on here? It's possible. I can even see my parent's motorhome. This is sweet!

Didn't this come up before? And Mike said it wasn't a good idea to post pictures of where people live?

I was being facetious. There is no way that I would tell a bunch of people on the internet where I live, especially on an open web forum. Amongst other similar ideas is not turning off the "Send me information regarding...." box on software registration.

Holy crap, I can make out the cars in our driveway...

EDIT: Bah, can't get in close enough of a resolution to the University of Iowa to actually make out any distinct buildings of any use...

I think the maps are a bit out of date...I'm pretty sure that's the pre-hurricane roof on my house.

And they only have my campus at the fourth click from the top... :evil: . I can barely recognize the large buildings at that level of zoom...let's see, that's the library, there's the business building, I think that's the theatre...maybe the music building?

Blah, tried looking for the Cherokee Nuclear Power Plant in Gaffney, SC, which served as the main tank for The Abyss, but gave up... :(

Wow. I just checked out Google Maps on Friday, and they didn't have the Satellite view then. And now they do. Hm, seems I wasn't home when the last photo was taken, though our neighbor was. As was my friend, since his car is there. (Or maybe that's my car... they're both white. If it's his, the picture would have to be within a year old. Given that the new building at my University is there, that would seem to be the case.)

For a more detailed zoom of some areas, you can try NASA's World Wind. The street-level photos are only available for selected cities in the U.S., but the detail level is even better than Google Maps where it's available. Even just the client is a pretty hefty download, however (at ~170 MB), and cache files for it can easily grow into the gigabyte range, so it's not for those without broadband.

I hearGoogle is using 15-meter resolution imagery they got when they bought Keyhole. They do have 1-meter imagery but they might reserve that for subscribers only.

Funny, there's a big green blob right over my dad's house. Either there's no imagery at that range or he had Taco Bell for lunch.

I wonder if they will update it to include other countries? I'd like to see a picture of home that didn't include a slice of Ireland and the North Sea. ;)

Pretty fucking cool. I spotted my apartment complex, and even the pathway from my apartment to the damn sidewalk on the way to work. Very sweet. 8)

Heeey, I can see my parents' house from here!

::Looks closer::

Yep, recent photo alright. No older than 2002.

::Looks even closer.::

Hey now, that dark spot at the end of our driveway. I think that's my car!

::Keeps looking::

Whoa, I can see the glint off their old satellite dish.

Freaky.

It sure seems like alot of rural areas use a much less focused resolution, almost like the old terraserver images... "I think that fuzzy blob is my street"..

The city images are good though.

Alright... looks like the picture of my area... taken very recently, within the past year or two. I can tell because the old water tower we used to have is no longer there and that was only two years ago. It was a school day, I can tell because the parking lot of the High School is full. Fun times.

And unfortuantely it only gets to around the fourth level out before is stops above my college.

Unfortunately, the resolution in my area is still so low that I can just barely make out the street outlines in my area :(

(This is the highest resolution for my area)

Check out Norfolk, Va. You can see at least two aircraft carriers docked among some other ships that I can't make out. I wish I could make out the names of the carriers.

Well, it zooms all the way down to my house, but when I tried to find my workplace the closest it gets is about 5 zooms away from closest.
