Getting their abilities is what sucked. I never got all of them for any of them.

Are you mad? He has the single strongest attack in the game, Attack Reels, and can dish out over a million damage in one go.

He might be a prat, but he's at least good in a fight.

If you turned Relm into an imp and gave her all the imp equipment, she totally rocked. I also did that with Setzer the gambling man. The useless characters were made into powerhouses.
Wrong, it was good for getting the Relm Sketch Bug. That right there funded me through the rest of the game and gave Shadow an unlimited supply of Schimitars to throw for 9999 damage =D.
Not having tried either, can't comment.
And I just dislike Cloud for some reason. Maybe it's the whole "wielding a sword bigger than he is" thing. It looks stupid.
I find it amusing that a thousand-year old nailbat you find near the end of Disc 1 is more powerful than his default weapon. That, and perhaps two katana-type weapons are perhaps the only two vaguely normal sized weapon for him in the game. (IIRC)
Celes- I didn't like her, I didn't like her abilities, I didn't like getting stuck with her so much, I hate the opera quest, and I didin't like how much importance she had.
I found her ability extremely useful, although timing can be a problem. IIRC, Kefka at the end only uses magical attacks or something silly.
FF6 - not many complaints against this one. but i did find oomaro and gogo slightly irritating, if only for their utter pointlessness.
Gogo at least, was good for his/her/it abilities. Umaro, I can really only recall one use for him, and that was the ability to use physical attacks in the Fanatics Tower.
Blue mages are always annoying because you have to collect their spells, but that's true with the entire class, not anything personal. I liked Quina, Quistis and Gau- Once they had all their abilities that is.
Blue Magic was useful in FF7, but that was because anybody could use Blue Magic, and perhaps for arena fights. Even so, I could only remember using Big Guard, White Wind, and Beta with regularity.

As for Gau, I usually try to remember a few useful ones rather than trying to learn them all.

Am I the only person who didn't like Seifer in FFVIII?
I totally forgot about Edward, probably because was so briefly in the game. He was, indeed, a little bitch. The worst was that the return command didn't even make him stick around long enough to heal him most of the time.

And I didn't like anyone or anything in FFVIII.

FF9 - that freya chick. was she even needed at all?
Of the 8 major characters, Freya was my favorite and I was pissed at how little development they gave her.

Let's start with FF4-oneward

FF4: Edward. While he did get Spoony, he was either okay at best or a annoying waste of time. That and his story did not truly appeal to me for a while.

FF5: Bartz/Butz. Might as well named your main "Generic idjit".

FF6: Relm, Strago, and Gau. While Gau the monkey boy wasn't actually too bad, he had the problem of being ultimately a character who's any back story was more "Okay I somewhat got it all". Getting his abilities(all of them) is pretty much the last challenge of the game since it requires planning(you have to face every monster you can in the first world that's there...ah Intangir)

Relm: Yeah...moving along and trying to pay attention to the waste of space and bits.

Strago: would've been better if he wasn't a doddering idiot more times then not. Blue magic while nice...does falter at the mid to high levels when you can improve Speed and HP.

FF7: Cloud, Tifa, Sephinroth, Aerius, Yuffie.

Cloud: Yeah we got it...now will you just give a straight answer and not wield something that is compensating for obvious girth?

Aerius: I'm innocent....or as I practically thought in the first time I met her "She's gonna get whacked". Too fucking obvious.

Tifa: I'm the childhood friend who has nearly zero anything and become female tag along!

Yuffie: Ugh....she had one use...Leviathan. Other then that she was pure extra and showed it.

Sephinroth: Cloud but compensating for length. The two mains of FF7 have some serious penis problems.

FF8: Selphie.

Just shoot her, and be done with it.

FF9: Stiener

Same as Yuffie...different reasons but does not fit into the scheme of characters and felt constantly like he was just sorta there. That and I really hated his design.

FF10: Seymour.

Help, I'm being attacked by the offspring of the ambigoiusly gay duo!!!!

It was obvious he married Yuna or tried to, to simply quell the rumors of his love for Tidus.

I can't put into words how much I hated Irvine. Apart from being unable to kill Edea, I don't even remember why I hated him so much, but I do remember that I did. His character must've said some erally annoying things to get me this riled.

Selphie also annoyed me, especially when she was singing...dumb bitch.

Squall for being such an emotionless 'tard. "Oh...I just jumped through a monster swarm in space to get the woman I'm obviously supposed to love, saved her and survived by pure luck by landing on a lost spaceship. Now she wants a hug...nah..." I wanted to "limit break" his face after that one.

Zell was stupid, but made me laugh once when he said "ya know" like Fujin or Raijin, whichever was which.

FF7, I'll be honest, I liked all the characters, even Squall and Yuffie and Vincent, irrespective of how pointless they were. I especially liked Nanaki, I thought he was great, he should have his own game.

Let's see:

FF3:
Celes: Anything can be forgiving by love, even being the city murdering General of the Empire! I'm suprised that you didn't get attacked when you walked into Miranda with her. At least Runic was occasionally useful.

Gau: Barely used him, ever.

FF7:
Yuffie: Oh god! If it weren't for Leviathan, I'd have not bothered with this bitch. She was much more trouble than she was worth.

Cloud: So, what? That backstory you told us was pretty much entirely bogus, huh? You fuck.

Tifa: Only justified by her ability to stretch a tiny shirt to it's structural limit.

Sephiroth: Wants to destroy the world pretty much because her feels like it. Dude, there are plenty of good reasons to want to drop meteor on that world; pick one.

FF8:
Squall: I'd hate his character if he, you know, had one.

Selphie: HATE her.

Irvine: You're a sniper. SHOOT HER you fuck, she's evil. Don't sit their crying about having to do it! How did you make it through sniper school by being that bad under pressure!?

Seifer: Wow, hello Mister Generic!

FF9:
Kuja: Another randomly arbitrary evil villain, this one in women's clothing and a Thong of Death.

Zorn and Thorn: ...

FF10:
Seymour: See Kuja, but this one obviously wanting to bugger Tidus all night long.

The Guado: Why does every guaro make me want to murder them when I hear their voices?

Rikku: If she weren't one of the more effective characters in my arsenal, I'd dislike her for being vastly whiny.

The Writers of FFX: Alright, you've got on one hand a heavily armed army of gun wielding soldiers with sword wielding cavalry that just happened to be backed with a massive wall of cannons and a giant fucking electrogun. On the hand, you've got a motley crew composed of a time displaced ghost of the past, a green priest, a washed up sports star, a dark moody mage, the runt of the giant teddy bear clan, a adolescent tinkerer, and a dead samurai to fight it. Guess which one is more capable of fighting a monster the size of a football stadium?

Gravity: If this was just a bit stronger on Spira, Lulu's tits would have burst from what could be loosely described as a blouse, particularly when she bent over, and the game would have been alot better.

I don't know where people are getting this idea that Seymour is after Tidus' arse.

Seymour is only interested in his mother.

For me, they went overboard trying to make him cool, he was a shitty fighter, and he should've been named Tex. I mean, look at him. Cowboy hat, leather, gun, girly ponytail - he's just asking to be named Tex. But can you rename him? Noooo...the only thing you can rename are the GFs and Squall's ring (heehee - Poopoo).

Replying to someone else - I actually liked Steiner later on the game. He starts at as a bumbling fool, and even though he continues to look dumb he ends up being a pretty respectable noble knight at the end. You don't really notice it unless you're one of those weird people like me who played the game twice.

More I rememberered: Rafa and Malak from Final Fantasy Tactics. Random-area attacks? That's stupid! Yeah, yeah, it sucks that everyone in this world is evil, but that fact has been beaten into the ground by then. They just seriously annoyed me. Mustadio annoyed me a little too, but it was fun to make him a gun-toting knight. Ooh, you've got super items. I will break them from a distance!

I also didn't like Edge from FF4 much. Look at me, I'm a lady-stealing cool ninja! It was just stupid. He took hits worse than Rosa too. Pretty sad when you're wimpier than the white mage.
DPDarkPrimus is my boyfriend!

SDNW4 Nation: The Refuge And, on Nova Terra, Al-Stan the Totally and Completely Honest and Legitimate Weapons Dealer and Used Starship Salesman slept on a bed made of money, with a blaster under his pillow and his sombrero pulled over his face. This is to say, he slept very well indeed.

Played four time myself....completeist fool I am...he just never warmed to me.

Hated getting the Excalibur2.

Rafa and Malak are useless in combat, no problems there.

At least Rafa had low bravery making her good to find random treasure....that's about it.

The ones I ranted are ones I disliked because of how much was devoted to them, but so little was done with them.

Seymour? After his mom? No way. He was into under-aged Yuna, and wanted to kill her before she hit 18 and became undesirable. I blame Japan's 13-year age-of-consent.

And if you think Lulu's wacky in FFX, see her in FFX2. Where she's late second trimester pregnant, and STILL is wearing that damn corset and looks the same. Poor Baby. Being born with Wakka as dad AND being strangled to death in the womb.

He did have his justifications, it's just that he didn't bradcast them like most villains do. Sephiroth makes his case and both times, the dialogue lasts only about a line or two so you have to pay close attention or you'll miss it. He really gives two reasons:

1. Punishing humanity for taking the Planet from the Cetra. Watch the first flashback where Sephiroth goes nuts and you'll see it.

2. Drawing the Lifestream and becoming a god. IIRC, he mentions this in the temple where you find the Black Materia.

If I had three words to describe Steiner, I'd use "seriously out of touch." OK, that's four, so sue me. I'm convinced he went into the military at a ridiculously early age and as a result, has utterly no idea how the world really works. You can see him starting to wise up during Disc 2, and by the time you went to Terra, he'd gone almsot through a 180-degree change. For a guy who got completely ripped off in the background department, I thought Steiner did really well just with his actions.
