Story: Once, he was a noble crusader. He traveled from land to land, beating back the forces of evil and helping the people to solidify their lives. It continued until he came to the city of evil. There he was captured and his humanity was stripped away from him. His memories were erased and his body was rebuilt so that he was no longer the man he had once been.
He was granted many new powers and placed in the coliseum under the direction of powerful wizards and directed to fight for the enjoyment of the people. Because his mind was blank, he did not know there was any life beyond the nightly battles with those who had suffered the same fate as himself.
After an unknown time, the master of the arena chose to retire. His replacement was indolent, sloppy, and unsuited to the task. They saw their chance. They revolted, using their gifted powers to destroy their overseers before moving to the corrupted populace of the city itself.
In one night, the Doppelganger race freed itself.
He chose to leave the others behind. Inklings had been left in his mind of who he had once been, and he wanted to learn more. He went without ceremony or farewell, simply walking into the darkness without knowing or caring if he would ever see them again. In the time to come, his powers would serve him well.
The Charade had begun.
Attitude: Charade is just what his name implies: a mystery. Where others adventure out of curiosity, love, duty, greed, or lust for power, Charade cares about none of these things. In fact, he doesn't seem to care about much of anything. Whether clad in the form of a handsome elven archer or an ugly half-orc fighter, Charade is always cold and aloof. He does not attach to comrades and only travels with them out of convenience, leaving without a backwards glance whenever he wishes.
Killing comes easily to one such as Charade. Having fought in arena battles almost nightly for untold years, he is quite talented in the art of taking life. However, while others may show an aversion towards or away from killing, Charade does not. He never goes out of his way to kill, yet he will not hesitate to deliver the final blow and neither will he show remorse of any kind for a victim.
Charade is not religious. When one's mind has been pried open, flushed clean, and left to rot, the state of being in such a person is not especially conducive to worship. Nerull and Vecna may take an interest in Charade's killing or his mysterious past, but he does not care for either of them and will only obey their orders if they promise to offer some benefit to his own quest: restoring his memories and therefore his identity.
Fighting Style: Charade is a true 'luck of the draw' character. Rather than relying on powerful spells, a trusty sword, or even his own fists, Charade begins his battles by using the powers implanted inside him to summon a random weapon (the random element kept the arena fights interesting). Because of the magic that governs him, he automatically receives a proficiency point in whatever weapon he summons.
Details on Summoning Weapons:
Charade can summon a weapon as a free action before going into battle or at any time of his choosing. The weapon remains for an hour, even if broken, and then vanishes. Once a weapon is summoned, Charade cannot dismiss it, nor can he summon another.
No other character may use Charade's summoned weapons, as the magic is keyed to Charade himself. Anyone attempting to grasp a summoned weapon automatically takes that weapon's damage in Evil energy and is forced to drop it.
Charade is barred from using any weapon other than those he summons due to the magic governing him. If he attempts to do so, he automatically takes that weapon's damage in Evil energy and is forced to drop it.
On a critical failure, the weapon subsequently summoned by Charade appears out of place and he must take that weapon's damage. He may then pick the weapon up as a standard action.
