Oh damn you, Dark...I was gonna mention the Rasputin CG! Aw hell, I still will. Any character who, upon watching the villain jump onto an airship and fly away, turns into a demon and destroys the airship...Daaaaamn. :)

Shame about what happened to him...god, that was a depressing ending.

And for all that he was an evil bastard, Nickolai (Or however you spelled the bastard's name) was cool. Both before and after his little run-in with...a certain spoiler. And Kato...and...and....aw, okay, I'll stop now, too many awesome characters.

I liked Griswold in Diablo. Good solid blacksmith, who provided sound advice and even sounder weapons.

Broke my heart to have to kill him in Diablo 2

Bleu (I'll stick with the name people know, though it's really Deis or something) from Breath of Fire 2. Badass to the core, and sexy too. Her Special move was CHEAP as FUCK insofar as being totally unfairly good, but I never really minded that

HK-47. Of course.

Auron from FFX. I, as a female, cannot help but find him absolutely droolworthy, despite his age. It's genetically imprinted on us.

Kuja's cool, too.

I know I'm missing some...
"The rest of the poem plays upon that pun. On the contrary, says Catullus, although my verses are soft (molliculi ac parum pudici in line 8, reversing the play on words), they can arouse even limp old men. Should Furius and Aurelius have any remaining doubts about Catullus' virility, he offers to fuck them anally and orally to prove otherwise." - Catullus 16, Wikipedia

Let's see.

I thought both Robo and Ayla were fun as hell, from Chrono Trigger.

Cyan, Sabin and Shadow get the best of FF6 award.

FF7? Meeeh.. No one really stands out.

FF9, Steiner. Most character growth, and frankly, he deserved Beatrix.

FFX, Auron. He was just fucking badass. And so nonchalant about it.

KOTOR, HK-47. There is no other. If there was, HK would have shot 'em.

Atton's awesome if the main character's female. Blatantly hitting on the main character, asking Bao-Dur for tips on how to get into her pants (since, of course, Bao-Dur used to know her).

"Did you fine the mining equipment?"
"Yeah. And it looks like I found a uniform, too."
"Dammit!...Uh, I mean, good. It was distracting...for the droids I mean. Wouldn't want the droids getting distracted."

He's not as funny if the main character's male, though. Kinda strikes me as Carth 2: Electric Boogaloo in that case (whining whenever you ask him a question).

Aram - bounty hunter with detachable mechanical arms. Not a spectacular personality, but a brilliant design.

Badu - Nothing like a hulking thing that communicates via bioluminiscent patches on his forehead and fucks things up with a really big knife.

Selina - there's just something appealing about getting one of the bad guy's generals in your party. Plus, she's a badass.
Nope, I played it too. I always wondered how the heck Aram's arms returned to him after he fired them. And Badu was very cool, even though I never knew what he was saying.

As for my characters - I'll throw in Tinek from the original Star Ocean. It wasn't because of his great characterization or anything like that. He was just a small dorky-looking guy with glasses who turned into a big hairy werewolf with glasses. I thought it was so cool, and he was great in fights with his long reach and speed.

You do know Shadow Hearts 3 is in the works? Apparently we get an all-new cast (although Haley and Koudelka might reappear, since the working title is From the New World, and it is in the US). Just remember...the "bad" ending seems to be the official one so far.
And Kato...and...and....aw, okay, I'll stop now, too many awesome characters.
I forgot Kato...he was a great villain because he was doing evil for a good reason, rather than just being some "I'm in a bad mood, let's destroy everything" villain. And I liked the Colonel in the first game. She was working for the wrong side, did what was right, and paid the price for it.

Sarevok- The armor, the glowing eyes, can we say badass?

Myron- Yes that geeky little brat from Fallout 2. Not much of a fighter but funny as hell (and out of no fault of his own)

Magus from CT - Bad Ass, and one of the trickiest bosses to beat (finding the right combination to beat his barriers and getting enough healing in took a few tries there). And of course, he had Dark Matter...drooool.

Robo and Frog right behind Magus, also sweet and original characters in their own right.

Edgar from FFVI. Any hero who can beat enemies by doing stuff like blasting his tuba, spraying poison on them, hacking limbs off with a chainsaw, and pincushioning them with an autocrossbow is a guy I'll look up to. :)

Cid Highwind from FFVII: "GO MAKE SOME F$&%ING TEA" is a line I'll just never forget.

Vincent Valentine from FFVII: The kind of guy who shows his affection through a few puncture marks and a metric tod of lead. I loved him.

Barret Richards from FFVII: There's a reason I nicknamed this guy "battering ram".

Fujin and Rajin from FFVIII: What a pair. If I wasn't laughing at their antics, I was cursing at them for getting in my way. Unforgettable.

Laguna, Kiros, and Ward from FFVIII: Better heroes than Squall, Selphie, and Zell, that's for sure. There was real comraderie between the three of them that heroes in FF games often lack.

Edea from FFVIII: While she was evil, she was awesome. Had an entire nation eating out of her hand, stopped a sniper's bullet cold, then launched an ice spear through the hero's chest. RESPECT.

Beatrix from FFIX: Got more development than some of the main characters, and had a 3-0 track record fighting the heroes. Yeah, I love her.

Steiner from FFIX: As Nitram said, Character Development Award.

Freya from FFIX: ABUSED. Freya had so much potential and it was virtually all wasted.

Kuja from FFIX: My favorite of the FF villains (but you saw that one coming). One of the few video game villains who retires unbeaten (yep, replay the game, Kuja doesn't lose a single battle).

Ghost Rider wrote:1. Morte: You cannot argue with a skull who wants to get it on with...well...anything.
I love how he's always checking out zombies to see if he can get some action. Ordinarily, necrophilia would be horribly disturbing--but he's ALREADY dead! So it goes from being disturbing to oddly amusing. If you look at the code for the game, you can see some conversations that got dropped, too. In one of them, he and Nordom are talking about how Morte wants to "Snuggle with Annah's pillows."
2. Misnc: Or really Boo. I don't care, love them both and they have truly some of the best lines as "There is so much of Minsc and Boo is so very tiny." or the ever classic "Go for the eyes, boo, THE EYES!!"
Edwin and Viconia were also great, but in different ways. Irenicus and Bodhi made for great villains, but I also actually liked Isair and Madae from IWD:II. Their story was much more fleshed out because of the first game.

HK-47 from both KOTOR1&2. Let me site some specific examples
Recitation- " My assasination protocols weren't discovered until I was questioned by an aid. He was quite alarmed suggested that I should be scrapped in order to avoid scandal. Natually, my master had me eliminate the fool."
Recitation-" I shall now meditate upon the face of my former master as he was being electricuted. I find the image rather soothing."
Recitation-" Shall we go kill something to cheer ourselves up?"
From KOTOR2
Recitation- " Mockery- Oh master I do not trust you! I cannon trust you or anyone ever again! Mockery- Oh master, I love you, but I hate all that you stand for, but I think we should press our slimey mucus covered lips together in the cargo hold. Conclusion- Such pheramone responses never ceases to decrease the charge in my capacitors, and makes me wish I could press a blaster pistol to my behavior core and pull the trigger."
Recitation- (after installing pacifist protocols) " What if they have families? Or children? We must always think of the children. The littlest ones are always the first to suffer."

The thing is, HK-47 reminded me in a lot of ways of the equally hilarious Em-Kay from X-Wing: Alliance. I loved that droid, too.

My tastes have always been a little weird.

Prier, La Pucelle: Tactics -- Physically, she's like Lina Inverse with Tifa's chest and Chun-Li's legs, Fights like it, too! Her attitude is similar, but less greedy, and even more addictively confident. Now wrap that up in a nun's habit that could actually be called sexy.
Selphie, FFXIII -- Unlike everyone else here, I liked her i][because[/i] she was so damn cute.
Super Figaro Bros., FFVI
Vyse, Skies of Arcadia
Regal, Tales of Symphonia
chaos, Xenosaga

I never played many RPG games but I will lost characters from the ones I did play.

JC Denton from Deus Ex. Absolutely awesome character from one of the best games of all time.

Assassin class from Diablo 2. Cloak and smoke em. She is one of the deadliest characters of the game.

Zoe from Blade of Darkness.
Oh I'm sorry, were you killing somthing?

my picks, from the few RPGs I've played...

Bleu from BoF2, for the reasons already listed by others...
Frog from Chrono Trigger, for reasons others have already listed...
Crono from Chrono Trigger, because he's not contributing to the excessive dialogue so prevalent in many RPGs... "......."
Zylo from Shining Force, cause he's bad ass and he laughs at terrain...
and finally, pretty much the entire cast of Seiken Densetsu 3... just... cause...

Oh I just felt I had to mention Devil May Cry's Dante on this list (he puts in an appearance in Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne so he qualifies I'd say).
