A SW-Tech Free Gift...
A benevolent Deity decides to grant you a wish, you have the ability to ask for any of StarWars magical Techs… What you would receive is several working examples of said Tech, Books and complete technical Data on how it works and the properties of how to build one.
Of course, you can only ask for one tech, so, which would you choose?
Me? I would choose Repulser Lifts. It seems to me the most simple in the long run. Sure it would be nice to have Hyperdrives, and travel across the stars, but with no tech to build starships, there’s no point.
Repulser Lifts or ‘AntiGravity’ seems to be pervasive throughout StarWars. What ever it is, you can install it in something as small as a football. Plus, it would seem any source of energy would be able to power it up. Pluse, understanding how it works would lead to an understanding of Gravity itself, something that would be a boon to Physics Professors around the world and lead to a better understanding of the universe itself.
It would certainly revolutionize travel. You could make cars, trucks, anything airborne should you want. And you don’t have to worry about things like wings anymore, you could transport Ship sized loads over land with ease. And over time, as the tech grew more and more easy to use and understand, one could build whole flying Cities if they wished.

It's "hyperdrive," "hypermatter," "turbolasers," and "repulsorlifts."
I've kind of been noticing a trend with you, what's with all this random capitalisation, truncation and splitting of terms/words, and junk? Stuff like that drives me God damn crazy...

Repulsorlifts, easy. I'm an aerospace junkie, and "antigrav" technology is the so-called "Holy Grail of Aerospace". Repulsorlifts would make rocketry (for getting shit into orbit) obsolete. It would also make air travel cheap and highly efficient, as well. With a cheap way to get things off the planet, stepping into space would be rather easy. We already have primitive ion drives that have been proven on space probes, and plasma drive (primitive impulse engines) is about a decade or two away. While I've focused on the ramifications to the space industry, its implications on air travel, commerce, freight, and just about our very way of life would be transformed. Besides, owning a landspeeder would just be fucking awesome!

Heck with an Airspeeder, I could have a Literal Airship
It wouldn't matter how unorthodoxed the design is, or how aerodynamically unsound the design is. You could have whole Ocean Liners soaring through the skies with this On a wider scale it would wholy Revolutionize the transportation system of the entire world and give a major boost to getting large payloads into Orbit.

Repulsors... simply because flying cars (and other stuff) are cool. Hypermatter would probably be good too, down with oil and all that jazz. I'd say close tie, but I voted for repulsors.

Hyperdrives.
When we can go to new star systems, we'll have the whole galaxy to colonize, resources to draw upon, and overpopulation will be a distant memory.
It'll change everything. Our whole society would be changed. No need for fighting over resources, you can mine a whole starsystem if you need to, there are hundreds of billions to choose from. No overpopulation, cause trillions of planets to teraform and colonies, plus some probably Earthlike planets just waiting to be found.

With repulsorlifts and real Air-Ships, things like skies of arcadia woud become reality, you could lift entire islands! Hell, I want a hovertank!

I have to say, the problem with Hypermatter is, well, I just don't trust us with it!
Houenstly it would be the most useful, and with, understanding it's properties would lay the foundation for almost all the rest of StarWars tech... BUT it would be frighteningly easy once a Reactor was built, for it to be turned into a bomb of horrible potential.
I know it's a bad example, but we were building Atom BOMBS long before Atom Reactors...

Actually, Enrico Fermi built the first nuclear reactor, or "atomic pile", as he called it, before the nuke was built by the Manhattan Project, which, unsurprisingly, he was a part of. However, the commerical nuke plant opened in England in the 1950's. Boy, I'm a nerd! Anyway, I do share Crossroads' "hippy" fear of hypermatter. A nuclear reactor or even a fusion reactor cannot "explode" like a fraking bomb. A hypermatter reactor can go off like a hyper-nova!Crossroads Inc. wrote:I have to say, the problem with Hypermatter is, well, I just don't trust us with it!

Hypermatter Reactors are obviously the most powerful technology of the bunch ... but fuel's a bitch. The fuel for a starship's reactor outmasses the starship itself by quite a bit. We don't know what they use for fuel, and even though in this scenario we would be apprised of this, there's no guarantee that we could procure any of it.
So, unless there are no problems with fueling hypermatter reactors, I'd go with the repulsorlifts. They are apparantly relatively efficient. Plus, they would kick ass.

And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Fine, then I will point my TL at you and you will give me your Repulsorlifts. TL lets me take whatever I wantAce Pace wrote:Repulsorlifts, the problem with TLs or Hyperdrives is power, and TLs... come on, one shot destroys half the crust over the target zone.
Repulsorlifts also fixs the traffic problem, now multiple lanes of travel, saving money.
