Cutting video files

Post by Bug-Eyed Earl »

I'm trying to save space on my hard drive, and I was hoping one way to do it would be to cut out all of th eparts of video files that I don't like (like an episode fo a TV show I only watch one segment of). Is there a free prgram that enables me to do this?

If you have XP, Windows Movie Maker should be able to edit files like you want. Just be prepared to wait a long ass time for the edited file to recompile. And make sure you uncheck the "Make clips of this file" option when you open it.

I have a problem: I want to chop the intro segment out of piles of eps I have but editing software (like VirtualDub) doesn't grab at the frame I select and I get up to a second either way. Problem?

Virtualdub can easily grab at a specific frame. The only reason you might run into that problem is if you are using compressed video and the "direct stream copy" option instead of full processing and re-compression.

If you try to work directly with compressed video, VirtualDub has no choice but to start its cut at the nearest keyframe. It can't pick up a delta-frame and just start from there, for obvious reasons.
