Dells are junk, and hell will freeze over before I buy another one.

True the IBM thinkpad is bulletproof, my old one is running 24/7 and not a hitch or any sort of problem.phongn wrote:Dell support is laughable compared to IBM and their laptop build quality is certainly inferior to the ThinkPad. But then again it is expensive.

IBM's support in the UK is shit.phongn wrote:Dell support is laughable compared to IBM and their laptop build quality is certainly inferior to the ThinkPad. OTOH, the new joint venture between Levano and IBM might result in a quality decrease but only time will tell.
Their warranty centres are drive in, and there are only eight in the country, only they and Apple do that.
Even Sony have the decency to pay for a courier. Hell, even the cheapest piece of shit from PC World gets you a free courier when it goes wrong.

If I ever get a Dell laptop, I'm getting a Latitude. The Inspiron line is too flimsy for my purposes.

I'm very happy for you. Have any of them spontaneously developed a three inch crack in the case from normal wear and tear (which is SO TOTALLY NOT Dell's fault, of course)?althornin wrote:RedImperator wrote:Dells are junk, and hell will freeze over before I buy another one.
I disagree. Of all the pre-built big companies, they have the best quality and support.
I work with a lot of em (1500+).
When I spend a four digit number on anything, I espect a certain basic level of quality. If I don't get it, fuck you if you think you're getting another nickel out of me.

A lot of laptops do this, it's usually down to a pisspoor hinge design and the fact that they're made of plastic.
Most manfacturers cover it.
