Feeling death in the force

Post by nesaminos »

I've always wondered how many deaths have to occur simultaneously for a force-user to feel them like Obi-wan did. Would a force-user have felt the destruction of the Death Star, which had an enormous crew, but wasn't near the size of a planet? Lastly, Obi-wan didn't feel so good after Alderaan blew up; does this mean if you kill enough people you can cause a force-user to blackout, or even kill them?

Given the focus on the importance of the individual, it need only be one death - not necessarily someone who is regarded as important, but one who might have a significant effect on the course of events, or one with whom you feel a strong emotional or physical bond (i.e., blood relation).

Remember, too, that Obi-Wan says it felt as if millions of voices cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. The strength of the emotion, terror and fear, would certainly qualify as a disturbance in the Force. It is not a physical impact that this has on him, but a disquieting one - the turning away when one sees an unpleasant display of emotion or an uncalled-for expression of anger.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion
Through passion, I gain strength
Through strength, I gain power
Through power, I gain victory
Through victory, my chains are broken
The Force shall free me.

Spoilers to respond to spoilers. But it takes a damned strong person in order to survive when that happens. Many Jedi were surprised that the Exile survived Malachor, not because of wounds, but because all the death that occured would have been overwhelming. Even Vrook, Kavar, and Zez-kai El (spelled that last one wrong) were not resilient enough when Kreia showed them what it was like.

TPM novelisation, Qui Gon felt the death of the cruiser that sent them to the Feds. AOTC novelisation, Anakin feels the danger to Amidala.
