Chiss Name problem

Post by Lord Revan »

Well here's the Problem in SW:Battlactic Battlegrounds:Clone campaigns there's a Chiss CIS General (who's also a Dark Jedi) called Sev'Rance Tann, but Chiss name (both male and female) are writen (something)'(something)'(something) with core name(or full name) being used with title (for example GA Thrawn has full name of Mitth'raw'nuroudo (yes the same as one(or two?) of our user) with bolded part being the core name.

Well why is General Tann's (as she's called in the game) name different

these solution I could think of
1. Her Name is really Sev'rance'tan but some it's misspelled by accident or by intent (probaly by intent as they also use the wrong part of her Name with title)
2. Tann is her core name but she or the CIS added first part to hide her Chiss origins
3. Sev'Rance Tann is a fake name and we do not know her true name, again this done to hide her Chiss origins.

No that would the non-SOD reason I'm looking In universe or SOD reason for it (remember games are C-level apart of the game mechanics)

Maybe Tann's parents gave her a crappy name.

I'd say both two and three are equally valid.

Could you be more specific?

Parents do that from time to time. They give their kid some outdated or otherwise dumb name that's either odd or embarassing.

It could be similar to Bib Fortuna's name being broken up as a distinction from the rest of society. (Twi'lek names are spoken differently than they are written due to some weird superstition. Bib Fortuna was ostracized, hence his name being broken up.)

it's possible, but Thrawn is considered renegade by most of Chiss Ascendancy is called Mitth'raw'nuroudo by chiss (infact they never use the Name Thrawn when talking about him (as full name are used when talking to somebody inferior, so it may be that they are used when takling about somebody inferior)

Maybe she is not from a major house? Maybe only members of the houses get those long names?

Another explanation might be that her true name was to difficult to pronounce.

(Other than that, I'd say Nr. 2 is probably the best explanation. Even Pellaeon didn't know the name of Thrawn's people, so I believe they undertake every action to hide their origins.)

I would say that not all Chiss might follow Thrawn's naming convention. Heck take a look at current Earth humans. Chinese naming convention =! Western naming convention.

Maybe General Tann's Chiss name has nothing to do with the name she uses in the service of the Confederacy. Maybe she just picked one she liked. In real life, immigrants to America who have non-European names often choose a name for themselves, and it isn't always even similar to their birth name.

"but Chiss name (both male and female) are writen (something)'(something)'(something) with core name(or full name) being used with title"

I think the simple answer would be that this assumption does not demand complete consistency. If people said that Earth-human names were "Given name" followed by "Family name," this would be correct, but there are also exceptions, such as all of China.
