Scout trooper question

Post by Jason von Evil »

Is there any explanation for why Scout trooper helmet's are designed the way they are?

No idea. That shroud around his visor would severly limit their field of vision. Situational awareness would be key in scouting.

Something to do with how they ride on the speeder bikes?

It may be possible that it has something to do with the sensors. It does put a damper in the periphial vision department.

Actually, the helmets are equipped with a macrobinocular viewplate and sensors that lets them see in a 180 degree arc, so their vision isn't compromised. 8)

Never gave their helmet design much thought before (it looks cool), but it would also increase atmospheric drag a considerable amount when they're flying their speeder bikes at high speeds. :)

From Starwars.com
Designer Nilo Rodis-Jamero likened the scout troopers to kamikaze pilots who need only to see what's directly in front of them. This was part of the inspiration for the viewplate shroud on their helmets, which resemble the blinders worn by racehorses.

i hate to tell you guys but when your wearing a helmet, there is no periphial vision. Unless of course some alien is wearing the helmet and his eyes are bulgy, large and round like the visors then its periphial vision would be taken away by those sides

Cool. I never knew that. Clever workaround. Still I wonder what the shroud is for.

I'm starting to think that they might be part of the viewplate.
